Hey all, I have a shiitake that I cloned to agar from a mushroom from a farmers market and was wondering the best way to go about fruiting it. Agar to grain to sawdust block? Straight to sawdust block? I tried searching and could;t really find anything. Can someone help point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

Well that's a great start. I will go ahead put the agar to grain and continue my research from there. Thanks for the advice!!!

If you're just growing for hobby and don't want to mess with supplementing and having to sterilize the whole substrate, shiitake actually does pretty ok on unsupplemented wood fuel pellets.
Be sure to let the substrate fully brown before you induce fruiting. It will be a long time, 2 months at least, from spawning. Avoid temperature drops in this period, or they can pin prematurely inside the bag before it's ready.
Good luck, shiitake is a fun one, haven't seen anyone here try it in a while.

Hey thanks for the advice, I am just growing them for fun. Wanna try growing some mushrooms that I can eat without losing my mind. I will probably try the wood fuel pellets and supplement them, load it in bags and sterilize or pasteurize depending on what is the best method and make blocks in the same bags. I don’t mind waiting a long time, I have learned plenty of patience from this hobby!!!
If anyone has any more advice or can point me towards some great threads or sources that would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks all!!!

Just remember if you're going to supplement, you must fully sterilize the whole substrate and spawn under sterile conditions - flow hood or SAB.
