i can't tell. i suck at these

A. perobscurus is a relatively rare species that is also large, often shows yellowish colors, and smells almondy. However, the cap usually appears darker because it is covered with fine, inky-gray to blackish (not golden-brown to tan-brown) fibrils, and the almond odor is usually not as strong. A. subrutilescens has a scaly lower stipe, can be similarly colored, and often occurs under redwoods, but it does not stain golden-yellow, and doesn’t have an almondy odor.

MadMuncher... thanks! I didn't think there was any interest so I did get confirmation elsewhere. This was Agaricus augustus and damn delicious!

Personally, I'm not confident enough identifying Agaricus to species level using pictures alone, there's to many variables and smell is important when identifying them, it would make me feel bad if I made someone sick and i have enough on my plate at the moment without that.

I certainly understand and respect your perspective. I've learned a lot from you guys and I thank you immensely but I've always thought having "Trusted Identifier" attached to my name would be to me, personally, a heavy a responsibility no matter how much I know about mushrooms. Then again, maybe just a strongly worded caveat for a signature would be something I could be comfy with!
That said, hang in there Doc, I've admired your responses.
