How much variation in flow across filter face is acceptable?

Pretty much the title. How much variation in flow rate across the face of a hepa filter is fine/normal?
For example, Here's the flow in the middle:

Here's on the outside about an inch from the edge:

To me, it doesn't really look like a big difference. But it's also my first hood so I'm not sure. Also, how's the flow look? Do I need to dial it back anymore?

Definitely don't dial it back, between a 45° and 90° bend is gtg. The variation is likely due to filter quality but should be fine.

All righty. Thanks. You think there's any way it could potentially stem from leaks of any kind? I've got everything silicone up, but I might pull the front slat off tomorrow and check the silicone on the side of the filter.

I doubt it. If there was a significant enough of a leak to change the flow it would be uniform.

That sounds good. I just did some transfers and ran some test plates so we'll see how they turn out

Awesome, it must feel good to get in front of your hood instead of peering through a tote

Oh yeah it feels great. I primarily decided to invest in one because I was neglecting to start SO many projects because I had grown to not be crazy about working in my SAB after working in LFH's at work all the time. So I thought a hood would be a good way to get me back enjoying agar work again and stop avoiding new projects. I can already tell I'm gonna like it a hell of a lot more.
Good thing is I can also do my work standing in front of it... I think I can at least. Unless there's a reason I shouldn't. I'm in my mid 20's with the back of a 60 year old lol

It doesn't take much for a hood to work well. Clean air moving faster than shit can fall on your work = winning.

Dude I feel EXACTLY that way. I've finally gotten less hateful of the SAB but it's still not great for seeing what I'm doing on Agar.
Mind sharing where you found the filter, what rating etc?

Yeah I've been in a SAB for about 3 years until now. But I had a big ass 200 qt (50 gallon) tricked out SAB which made it a lot nicer. I had the issue as well about clarity and visibility, so I built a window into the front of my SAB using simple Frost King Window Installation Shrink Kit. Cut a square hole however large I wanted it to be and put the shrink film across it then used some silicon, the adhesive strips that come with the kit, and tape to affix it in place. It's literally perfectly transparent. No more visibility issues.
As for filters. I got mine from Fungi Perfecti. Only because they could get it to me in around a week. Most other places require 1 month or more due to making them custom for customers. I would recommend going with someone other than FP. FP uses the HEPA-SEP filter from the Hepa Corporation (hepa.com). Another place I recommend is airfilterusa.com. Send them an email and they'll get back to you pretty quick. They have some good prices. As for what you want: HEPA filter at 99.99%+ efficiency at 0.3 microns. Preferably want a resistance of 0.8 in. w.g. at desired flow rate. But a little less or a little more resistance will be fine. It will just change your blower selection.
