Excellent idea. This home school thang just ain't working. I feel that so many students didn't do the work that they were supposed to and that many were passed on to the next grade even tho they shirked their responsibilities. Also, some parents are horrible teachers. Just one more step into idiocracy.

No way you could do it outdoors. kids be, crazy imagine 500 kids in the PE area sitting in the sun baking their ass off. it would be impossible to keep their attention... schools go back to normal or there is no school only 2 options. I did at home learning for 3 months... my kids took 3 hours crying n screaming to do one 10 min assignment... might work for 5th grade +... but no way 1st-3rd grade could do this. they only learn when there is competition.
Home schooling isn't a option unless they are going to pay us the teachers salary to off set lost profit from work.
in 7 years my family has never watched my kids they are useless, maybe rich ppl that can pay others to teach and watch kids, or do house work so parents can teach kids, just no freaking way it is going to work out for about 80% of us.

Really no clue.
Just brainstorming but it might help to have teachers, especially older or at risk ones, design the curriculum, grade homework, upload lectures and stuff, and have younger teacher assistants actually work with the kids in the classrooms. Maybe have smaller cohort groups of students/staff that go through all the classes together, so if one gets sick they can quarantine that whole cohort. Could do longer days and less days per week to alter how many people are in the building at one time and keep the different cohorts away from eachother, maybe allow a masked recess outdoors where the different cohorts could see each other. Distancing as much as possible, utilizing conference halls, libraries and other buildings for more distancing, outdoor class/activity when possible, daily temp checks and nurse checkups if they have any symptoms.
Colleges should probably all be online only except smaller labs and clinical if needed, high school could get away with hybrid programs that limit bigger groups being together.
Ultimately I think that teachers unions have enough older and at risk people in them that we'll see a lot of school systems throughout the country switching to remote for a while.

all of these approaches need to be tailored to the district and the levels of implementation can be standardized nationally to coordinate a response
you cant have a school district that has all classes outside all the time, but having half the students outside on a nice day will greatly reduce the spread, and it can be done
parents should be encouraged to home school and classes should be reduced, or split into an AM/PM system

That's a good point about home schooling. That could actually help with unemployment and the pandemic at the same time, if somehow the government could pay out a weekly stipend to parents who home school their kids until it's safe to go back, kinda similar to what they do if you're the primary caregiver for a disabled family member. If schools don't go back in person there will be a ton of parents who will need to stay home with the kids and can't go to work. Going to be endless lose lose decisions for awhile.

Legitimate federal guidance based on science would be a good start. Major state and local funding would help, too.
And send tRump and that dumb bitch Betsy DeVos to an extended covid party.

If they reopen schools with no changes or safety precautions it will be disastrous kids will die and especially the parents when they go home can die. Also it's not a binary choice of do we open schools are doing that open schools just like opening the country we need to do it safely or else people will die and we will have to shut the schools down anyway

At some point we're all going to get it. I don't see any point in avoiding it.
I already had it. It wasn't shit. It felt like I was hungover for a week, and I had a dry cough that hung on for another week or so.
I thought I saw an article yesterday, where they did a bunch of random testing in some Florida city, and estimated that 1/3 of kids already had it.
