Amanita muscaria var. guessowii?

I'm thinking that these are Amanita muscaria var. guessowii. I've read that they are magic but also read that the North American version can be dangerous. I am in upstate New York USA. Would love to hear if anyone has had experience with these.

Thank you!

No amanitas are psychedelic. many of them contain amatoxins the most deadly of all mushrooms. Dont ever eat a mushroom with white gills there is a good chance you will die. What part of the east coast do you dwell i could probably point you to the mushrooms that contain psilocybin in your area.

Those look more like A. flavorubens than guessowii to me. And I'm pretty sure A. muscaria var. guessowii is fine to consume for psychoactive effects as long as you decarboxylate the iboetnic acid, just like any other A. muscaria.

I'm with Breeg on this one. Thays not guessowii, Am. Guessowii usually dint appear until colder more wet months. Theyll pop up along side the "normal" amanita muscaria.

Your best bet is to hunt panaelous cinctulus in lawns or horse pastures. They are growing all over the place where you live right now.

P. caerulipes is another one to have on your radar albeit more difficult to find since it's so small. They start popping up when the nights cool down - mid August usually. Happy to answer any questions you may have.

I agree with you guys, This is a very good example of why you want to carefully dig up the entire stipe. If you notice, the above specimens have some tell tale signs that they are not any variety of muscaria.
1st one that should be a red flag is the reddish bruising where they are injured or handled, I see it in the last picture, if that color isn't there and that's artifact, it's not Amanita flavorubens.
The 2nd obvious reason is that there are no concentric rings at the base of the stipe, Amanita muscaria and the varities of muscaria will have 3 concentric rings formed by the universal veil at the base of the stipe
