You registered in '99, like daaaaaaamn.

I'm having trouble getting germination out of a year old print lol. It will be three weeks this weekend.

Exactly how long did it take for you to see germination? What potato tek are you referring to?

I only use less than a year old prints and I dont bother anymore if its older. Waste of plates. However, refrigerated prints might stand a better chance. I only store mine at room temp.

Great news that 10yr old prints are still viable.

the interesting part i forgot to mention is growth started at condensation ie outter fringe areas were spores at washed to (getto tek tupperware) and not actually at the swipe site so i suppose some hydration is likely VERY helpful. or could be my pinch of honey was inhibitive. I am sure there is some osmatic type teks to rehydrate spore prior to inoculation which would work best.  and or keep air exchange to min for first week or so.

1 took maybe 2+ weeks to see anything poor temps aswell is why i said only extra 10 days or so. and another it was a solid few weeks to see anything.

I was lazy and stuck at home so just boiled the 250 grams or whatever it is of potato. which of course works but not nearly as consistent as malt dextrose agar. and think i just used unfiltered water and of course likley some left over chloramines (imagine chlorine completely evaporates) which would hinder things aswell. aswell as i was just killing time as truly didnt think I was going to see any gowth from such old prints 2008-2010 was the range of prints i used and wasnt super careful with anything some water got into some containers as PCed the agar mix in the tupperware.  so maybe having a bit softer "wetter" agar helped? or maybe hindered all i know is it worked..

idea is I know lots of people would just toss prints as "heard" after few years not worth it and know not a bunch of info on use of "super old" prints. I know some folks with older prints but seemed like a solid amount of time for majority of hobbyists.

Got a 15 year old wild collected print to germinate. Gave out a bunch of prints to fellows here on the Shroomery over the last year.

Good job with the old spores. That's a real proud moment when you see life arise from such a thing.:congrats:
