advice on dealing with difficult psychedelic experiences
    #26826489 - 07/16/20 08:17 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hey
I didn't expect to post on here but, as I was reading and writing some trip reports yesterday I felt sick. I'll give you a very short backstory.

[personal info deleted]

I slowly got better and the worst part of it passed. But now even after so many months if a situation reminds me (even unconsciously) of a "bad" trip or of my psychotic period I get very anxious and my mind "plays back" those sensations, making me live it again. This lasts for less than half an hour. In the past I have tried to take benzodiazepines but they make me feel worse. I also went to therapy but it was too expensive and I had to stop, even if it was helping me.
If any of you has some advice for me, it doesn't matter your background, I'd be happy to read it. Thank you.

I cant attest for changa maybe it was how it was prepared? Did you set intent at the beginning of your trip? I feel this is always a must whether just me or a group. I also feed my mushrooms loving words, and good energys and ask them to help free ppl from there demons, show the way of love and kindness. I'd say you have to come face to face with this anxiety, picture yourself hugging this feeling and it vanishing away like smoke in the wind. Tell the feeling you dont control me!! say it aloud also!! Intent can be as powerful as the mind!! I'd say your mind was trying to process something but maybe you werent ready to see what the medicine had to show and if we fight this it can have negative consequences on our psyche. Grow some mush and set intent with them for there whole cycle start to stomach and take like a 1.5g dose and go back under the hood and fix that loose wire bro! You just need enough to pop the latch ajar.

Thank you for the kind reply!
I have already done the last thing you suggested (in the past) and maybe this is the reason why mushrooms have always been gentle with me
The trip wasn't unplesant and I didn't even break through on that occasion. I never took the time to integrate my experiences and all that emotional information kept building up until my mind had a breakdown.
I have learnt only positive things thanks to psychedelics (even during the few experiences that started as unpleasant ones), but even positive experiences, when they are powerful, need to be processed, otherwise they're going to put the mind through a huge amount of stress and sooner or later it won't take it anymore.
I appreciate your advice, but speaking about tripping in the future I don't think it would be a good idea.

I strongly suggest taking a break from all psychedelics for a year, and after that only slowly easing back into things with a great deal of time between doses. Maybe multiple months between use. Start low and only slowly increase your dose.

You get used to difficult experiences over time, and you will naturally develop techniques to deal with them, but they'll always be difficult. That just comes with the territory. One things that helps is, if you're having a bad time, try watching a movie, or playing a video game, or doing something completely different from whatever you were doing. Change the music you're listening to, move to a different room, try something new. But especially try something engaging like a movie or a video game.

Hey Inner,

I see your location is set to Italy. Does the name Italo Cillo have any familiarity to you? I had the honor of being able to call him one my great friends. His body no longer walks this earth, but his heart and soul are very much still encircling us. We had several life altering ceremonies together shortly before his passing. The last thing he told me in physical words was "It was so wonderful to watch you grow". He has touched a lot of hearts and minds, and I feel that his words can possibly help you as well.

Please take it easy on your brain. I don't know your situation, but it's very important to go easy on yourself, you have put a lot of load on your neurons and they need time to collect themselves. I don't know your habits, but if you are taking cannabis I suggest you at least try to stretch it out as much as you feel like you can. It is healing if used properly, but excessive use (which can feel nice, and is easy to fall into) can also hinder you tremendously - and even prevent you from completely healing yourself. Find whoever and whatever you can that makes you truly happy and feel stronger, and surround yourself in that energy. Retain as much of your energy as you can, however you can. Literature, exercise, walking/hiking, music. As above so below - if you improve physically, your mind will follow. Even the most minute change - you will feel it and your spirit will have more room to move. If your spirit has wiggle-room to work on your mind, then you will be able to influence your body easier - which will continue to become easier to improve your mind and keep loosening your spirit and so on and so forth - until you start to feel "movement" and are reunited with the ability to "swim freely" once again.

If you are absolutely compelled to connect to the other side, I would only suggest no more than one gram of psilocybin brewed into tea for the first few times going back in, a half of that would probably be better. The psilocybin wants to help you, but you don't want to overload yourself and "shock your roots", so to speak. If the psilo requires larger volumes of itself to help you, it will let you know. Baby-steps. During your sessions it's a good idea to play soothing music and consider a typewriter/notebook to help organize/analyse your thoughts and beliefs to help provide insight into what might be affecting your spirit. I would also strongly suggest to really consider never taking "acid" again. Pills are also incredibly harmful.

If you somehow come in contact with Italos family, they might possibly know of an organization who could help point you in the right direction to experiencing a real Ayahuasca ceremony, I don't know for certain, but it is a possibility. I know people are curious and want to try to brew their own (alone - in a basement or wifi-filled apartment building where you can hear your neighbors conversations) but for the love of God - please don't, until you have drank close to one hundred times in a safe setting under the eyes of a thoroughly experienced guide/shaman.

May you overcome this hill, make it to the top, stand triumphant, look far out into the eternal horizon, feel the wind, and take in a perfect breath knowing that you made it. May your thoughts be at ease, Brother.

Hi Ex Oskeleto and thank you, your words made me feel much better. I'd like to "rate" you but I can't because my account is too young. I had never heard about Italo Cillo, but I did a quick web search and found his website so I'm going to read about him and to watch your video as well.

I quit smoking weed one month after my last trip (I had been smoking daily for four to five years). So it's been 18 months since I have taken any drug. And I already recovered a lot since then.
Actually I hadn't been having any bad anxiety attack since months, but when I joined the Shroomery I decided to write the report of my first LSD experience and while I was doing it I started sweating and shaking a little bit. Then at night I had a "flashback" (for lack of a better word) but it never got as intense as the ones I had in 2019. Yesterday all went well. I have the privilege of having supportive parents who know about my psychedelic experiences and supportive friends as well.

I do have abused benzos, alcohol and nitrous oxide but never had an addiction and it's already been years since the last time I took them.
Then I've tried opium, ketamine and MDMA but I've taken them less than 5 times each, so I doubt they have done any damage.

Now speaking about ayahuasca, that's pretty much what I did, with the difference that I live in a quiet location in the countryside. In part because of recklessness and in part because I struggle to trust facilitators, unless I have known them for a long time. There is a big association that organizes ayahuasca retreats all around Europe, but it's sketchy and has received blacklash both from a native South-American community and from Western people. Anyway, even if it wasn't the proper way to take it, everything went well except for the come-up.

You gave me very good advice, in fact excercising and hiking have been decisive for my recovery. I haven't done much since the pandemic started though, and maybe that's why I felt worse. It's time I go back to it  :strong: :tongue2:
