Frozen grain spawn
    #26826959 - 07/16/20 01:02 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

So I froze a purple cub. strain from Florida 4 months ago.

I'm about to put it out on MEA to see if it can be revived

I have recently been informed that I should have refrigerated not frozen.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Also the grain spawn has been at room temp for 3 days to thaw 50-85 Fahrenheit.
Will it survive?

I'd be surprised if it lived but maybe

I had a bunch of slants freeze and the myc never recovered. Maybe the core of the
spawn lived but I doubt it if it's frozen solid.

If you look around. Spores can be had super cheap or free.

It worked fantastically, every single petri dish I made grew well and even ate the bacteria that was growing. Which is why I froze them in the first place. I'm amazed.

Definetely! I'll be logging everything and taking pictures. It seems to make them extremely bacteria resistant.

Someone chime in if they think I'm wrong.

But it's definitely working so far.

It's got to be repeatable by others though.

The first dishes I used were autoclavable and not sterile. I did not know they weren't pre sterilized. Major contamination throughout the ME agar. They have all eaten the bacteria completely and filled the dishes.

I am into the second set of agar plate transfers to find the best monoculture.

Well, if it's repeatable by you, then others might be tempted tot ry it as well. I'd be interested in seeing this played with; unfortunately I'm too new to this to know enough about what I'm doing.
