Critique my diet * 1
    #26826296 - 07/16/20 03:15 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Ive lost a lot of weight using this one meal a day plan. Ive been narrowing down a meal that feels really good to eat and this is what I've gone with. I enjoy the savory flavor this gives and the quantity seems very high and I continue to lose weight. My calorie guess is between 800-1300 calories.

1 Kilo of Carrots chopped and cooked on stove in boiling / flavored water. Drain the water and add 2 cans of corn 2 cans of peas. This becomes my vegetables for the next 5 meals.

I cook up 2 chicken thighs or 1 decent sized steak, or 500 grams beef mince, then dice it up and add the veggies to the pan.

Then I add a sauce I make.

The sauce is equal parts mayo, mustard, ketchup, with heavy amount of relish and diced up sundried tomatoes. Also a heavy amount of garlic-chili sauce. Then after its made I mix the whole thing 50/50 ratio with sour cream.

I add between 3 and 5 heaping spoonfuls of this to the meal. Depending on how ravenous I feel. The 500 gram mince day is my favorite because its a TON of food.

This is pretty much all I eat.

Thoughts? Anything I could add? Or swap the veggies for if I get bored? Is the sauce unhealthy?

If it's working for you, keep doing it.

My advice would be that it can be difficult to maintain a specialized diet for a sustained period. For example, not sure of your circumstances but you may be doing less outside the house now due to Covid and so it's easy to keep to this one meal a day routine. But if you know that you're eventually going to go back to work and eat lunch there, or have meals with friends and family, this will be harder to sustain. And people severely limiting calories or changing their body's metabolism tend to gain at least some weight back when they are less strict about their weight loss eating routine.

The mayo/ketchup/mustard/relish mixture sounds kinda weird to me but apart from the small amount of added sugar in the ketchup and probably some in the relish, it's not too bad health wise. Mayo is basically just egg and oil, so think about whether you would put like half that volume of oil into something you would eat... if you're only using a spoonful then not such a big deal.

Maybe try other sauces like vinaigrette, a curry type sauce (I like yogurt and chicken broth with cumin, garlic, onion, ginger and lemon), or a greek yogurt and fresh herb sauce (like dill) if you get bored.

Other good veggies might be cauliflower and broccoli (easy to get frozen or fresh and steam or boil), leafy greens you can sauteed like spinach or kale, green beans. Carrots, peas, and corn are all a bit starchy, which is OK because you're not having any other starches. If you go more green veggies you could add some beans or lentils to the mix to make it more filling.

so, your diet consists of chicken and carrots/peas?

that is nowhere, NOWHERE near a remotely balanced diet.  guessing there's lots of sugar in the stuff you are adding.  also, look into getting a metal steam-basket.  boiling food for any length of time basically destroys its nutrient content.

corn is not a vegetable, it's a grain, and one that is hard to digest/get energy from unless it is ground.

I'm not dietologist and not a doctor but know some about food.

and those[saues] are big no-no's if you want to loose weigh.
I mean it does the job because you eat less calories so you have calorie deficit.
but you can have much more better diet.
changing your sauces. there's so much sugar in them you wont even believe. and it makes shit so much slower!

obviously diet depens on goal and your body type, metabolism etc, etc.
but in general you want to keep all nutrients in your diet.

I would replace bought sauces with home made ones like greek yogurt or vinaigrette or simple olive oil.

then you could eat even more as I understand you like big amount of food.

also making stuff like chilli con carne for example: minced beef, canned tomatoes ,chilies ,bell peppers garlic, carrots etc. is really good option if you want to make food for weed in advance.

also try to eat different foods to get most of diet.
fresh fruits and vegetables ar really good option because it is filling.

If your doing this to save time and money then I give you a thumbs up.  If your doing this to diet Id suggest not eating once a day.  Healthy snacking is much better for your metabolism and will keep you from feeling hungry most of the time.

I suggest adding two things.  First since your prepping meals, try making your own granola bars.  Look up some healthy recipes, use low sugar, high fiber ingredients, use dried fruits in them too.  Eat one with an apple and you'll be satisfied for a while.  Second is to eat a salad every day, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper and a fat free dressing..  Drink lots of water too.

Dieting improperly can lead to allot of problems with depression, sleeplessness, fatigue and more.  Get into calorie counting and keep yourself under the recommend daily amount for your age and weight and remember that its not a part time thing for just till you meet your goal.  If your serious about it, think of it as your new way of life.

That's a terrible diet. You will be majorly deficient following that plan for an extended time. Also 1200 calories is starvation and will cause long term problems in your metabolism, mainly by creating an environment where your body preferentially sheds muscle mass in order to preserve fat stores. This happens in any weight loss scenario, but is more pronounced the bigger the calorie deficit

Tdeecalculator.net

Find out your energy requirement and aim for about 500 less. Lifting weights and aiming for high protein makes this easy. Lots of beans, milk, meat, eggs. Will have you full with plenty of calories to spare.

Get a better mix of vegetables. Corn isn't bad, it's just more a carb than a veg. Soak overnight in lime water to enhance nutrition/ digestion. Eat more vegetables, it doesn't matter much what, just get several different ones.
Bonus points for lacto fermented veggies. Also helps with nutrient availability.

If you plan to eat beans everyday, you should sprout them. Beans contain(lectin?) and can cause intestinal issues. And again, this allows for greater nutrient availability

fasting or intermediate fasting is actually good for you.

snacking is quite tricky.

if you are athlete and you train multiple times a day it is good to split your whole daily food intake into smaller meals per day to keep energy levels optional because you burn a lot calories.

I found that for average person eating very often (4-6times per day)is not very convenient because you can easily overdo it.
by eating more often you making a habit to eat often which leads to becoming hungry more often.
plus it takes a lot time  from your day just to eat.

Even for athletes/ soldiers with high energy expenditures it's best to constrict your eating in an intermittent fasting. It's just a lot harder to fit 3000+ calories in a few hours. But it happens. I used to eat a little short of 4000 in an 8 hour window, just because it was convenient. It's common to workout farted after a full night, and longer of not eating

The anabolic window, is false. You will gain nothing from eating immediately post workout, other than relief from your hunger.

The point, for those unaware,  of intermittent fasting is that restricting calories through the majority of the day leads to increased rates of apoptosis, which means (in theory) any questionable cells are promptly replaced keeping you in peak health.
