This one thing is poisoning all of us

Discuss.

I don't know who to listen to anymore. This doesn't have any CDC seal of approval or anything so it might be best to ignore it all.

I think it's less than 12 minutes, for those with short attention spans.

High fructose corn syrup. Its the white mans poison. I think it should be illegal.

Only hope can give rise to the emotion we call despair. But it is nearly impossible for a man to try to live without hope, so I guess that leaves Man no choice but to walk around with despair as his companion.

Everything in the video is true.

Check out the book "Zodiac" by Neal Stephenson.

Plastic is a bitch. Just do your part, I guess. Dont buy plastic water bottles, use reusable bags. No matter what, plastic aint going anywhere. Eventually they will probably just start blasting it into outer space or something. Get into chemical engineering or fluid dynamics and work for a non profit that wants to help the problem. I have a chemist friend who does catalytic converter research. He is more worried about climate change but there are applications in reducing pollution.

Eat your fruits and veggies instead of buying a bunch of packaged crap.

I have mixed feelings about living in a big city. Part of me would like to move out to a smaller town because the air quality is definitely better, but it seems like the quality of life is, too. Being surrounded by poorly educated people sucks, and educated people by and large live in the city.

Get into chemical engineering or fluid dynamics...

Yeah, I dunno.  Those are pretty tough studies to just "get into"

Polymer chemistry at undergrad level is very challenging, chem engineering plastics and shit is harder so. Can't speak for fluid dynamics yet, the Cal 2 under my belt gave me lots of challenge I can just barely overcome.

Your comment sort of says get smart or get fucked, while you rely on your chemist friend for an opinion made beyond what you could make because you haven't studied chemistry as extensively.

What is "Zodiac" about?

:rush:

morrowasted approved, who needs CDC.

Still on this soapbox of air pollution, been up here for weeks.

Funny how he said there is lots of pollution in China.

This guy said something similar. Months ago.

But we don't listen to him, because he's in hospice and is an opioid dealer who practices endocrinology.

my comment isnt meant to imply get smart or get fucked. More like, "if you see a problem and want to do something other than complain and raise awareness about, these are things you can do". Plenty of people who work in those fields arent especially intelligent, but they do have a certain mix of conscientiousness and drive. I agree that chemistry is very difficult. These are difficult problems to solve, there is not way to cut corners about that.

The problem I was cognizant of in society when deciding what career to pursue was mass acceptance of poor health behaviors- eating garbage, being sedentary, etc. I also found biology and anatomy type courses to be less difficult than chemistry and physics type courses. So i went into a field that puts me in a position to help people who have made mistakes regarding their health, and be able to spend time with and educate them about how to improve it. It is very rewarding to feel like you are part of the solution to the problems that bother you about the world- especially if you can make a living doing it.

Air pollution and viral pandemics are two separate problems. It is very likely that pollution exacerbates the severity of viruses that cause pneumonia. It is also true that the density of people living in cities, and the fact that people travel between cities, are probably the biggest contributors to the spread of contagious disease. Getting rid of pollution altogether would not stop people from getting viral pneumonias any more than getting rid of viruses would stop air pollution. They are just two different problems that are both important.

If you want to argue about connections between things that can be modified and the severity of viral pneumonias, I would say that people tending to eat garbage and get fat is a much bigger problem than pollution. I can assure that most of the younger people dying of covid arent the kind of people who eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. Air pollution isnt really something we can hope to get rid of entirely, but everyone can  eat better, move more, and lose weight

ZODIAC is about an analytical chemist who discovers a bunch of chemicals polluting boston harbor. It is fiction but it contains a lot of interesting truths

By the way, i know you are being passive aggressive/snarky, but things arent true because I say so. I got some things wrong in the covid thread. When I realized i was wrong, i admitted to it. The CDC gets things wrong sometimes. Youtubers get things wrong. The EPA, which is the equivalent of the cdc for pollution, definitely gets things wrong sometimes too.

The truth is indeed always out there, finding it requires a certain level of discernment
