all shrooms are nicer fresh we know that
e.g. liberty caps are a very energetic trip fresh (which I've heard weraroa are too) and brightly visual but when dried get a heavier bodyload and dimmer visuals. I put it down to the more delicate alkaloid of psilocin (and possibly others) stabilising/degrading into psilocybin or other analogues which is going to be more apparent in species' with a higher balance of them.
This effect can be partially reversed using something acidic (i.e.lemon juice) to dephosphorylate it back into psilocin

Nice Rog... those secos are fattening up nicely for you. looks like no one touched those subaeruginosa pins either! happy days.
As promised: one final Weak Ass Haul:

A handful of small fruits: some of which were blackening off... I didn't get habitat pics cause they looked a bit pathetic. 2 of them ended up back in some woodchip near the mother patch.
I will keep looking, but I don't think I will find more this season. I ended up with 31g dried (and a few fresh trips) I also am working on getting some myc running... my attempts from previous years all ended up turning black & dying. I would really love to emulate what seabreaze did:

His results are spectacular!!!! #privatepatch Seeing a couple of Panaeolus cinticulus on the thread this year has been cool as well... I believe they fruit through spring, it would be fun to have hunting options in other seasons.

Ahhh excellent. A proper WAH, nice work. I was also inspired by seabreeze have a few bins and baskets going.... we'll see we'll see. I hold out a bit more hope for the "on ground" spots so long as the birds don't too vigorous with their digging. Got a few tubs getting ready for outdoor transfer too
 This is one of the more promising ones so far. Don't really know what the chances of success are but a fun little experiment

Looks good n healthy so far! The last 2 years I have also had early success... but then it all goes wrong. (turns black & dies off) I am using straight up 'ghetto-tek' tho: just moving mushrooms, myc, and spores to new habitats// icecream containers. No special treatment, agar, or sterilisation. It makes me wonder how it thrives & survives out there on it's own.
I have "hand chipped" some pittosporum (Kohuhu) wood, and had it soaking in water.... soon, will be mixing it with store-bought potting mix to put in baskets. I hope it will make good shroom-food; and I will add my "starter kits" to these baskets.

4 Yup same here, no special treatment for the shrooms from me. I've had a few tubs with stems between cardboard going into bins of bark and wood chip early on, the material is quite green so not sure it's the best starting point. Was also told to skip the cardboard and go straight to wood chips and sawdust (no barkchip either apparently). Since then I've had 2 that took on wood and have been buried in wood chip beds at home and a friend's place, the beds have semi decomposed material which is why I think they'll have more chance. Have a few going now including the one in that photo and am also burying stems all round the place. 2nd half of the season has been more geared towards propagation. Cast the net wide enough and something will take I figure.

Most of the names you can pick apart the latin/ how it was named: some organisms are also named after people. The scientist who first 'describes' the organism in scientific literature gets to choose the name.
latin =
ovoideocystidiata: ovoid = ovalshaped cystidia = cells on the surface of a mushroom gill
subsecotioides= not quite secotiod
azurescens= named for the colour azure
cyanescens= named for the colour cyan
caerulescens = named for the colour cerulean
zapotecorum= named after the zapotec people
(etc...)
--->
I think I got it: subaeruginosa
sub= under/ not quite aerugo= latin for copper rust --> a reference to the blueing perhaps?
((at first I was thinking subaeru was something-- maybe a misspelling of subaru (the japanese word for the constellation: matariki) and it would be cool to be named after a constellation))
