Long term storage
    #26825877 - 07/15/20 07:49 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hey Guys,

I’ve been reading so much on long term storage of the dried fruits but everyone had different opinions on what will cause potency loss and it seems everyone says to vacuum seek it and put in the freezer.  What if you don’t have a vacuum sealer?  What’s the next best way?

After doing 4 batches at 5 hours each in the dehydrator at 165 degrees there’s about 4 dried ounces.  So def need to store them.  Lol.

Also, they were cracked dry but have been sitting out all day while the others went.  How about hang kinda feel a touch bendy in certain spots.  But crack if pressed too hard.  But others, about half are rock hard.  So I’m guessing I should put the others back in?  They probably absorbed some moisture sitting out.

Bought some damprid but didn’t realize it until I opened it that it’s the scented kind so that’s a no go.

Any advice, thoughts?

Thanks!!!

fuck damp rid if u have a dehydrator. get them bitches cracker snappin dry. go to goodwill and see if u can find a food saver cheap. otherwise double or tripple bag them with desiccant packets. i make mine from fresh step crystals cuz its 100% silica gel. then place them in an airtight container of some sort glass is best. then store in a cool dark place. they will be just fine if stored correctly but id u can vaccum seal and freeze thats the best. oxygen and light are the worst things for potency

24 hours in the dehydrator and toss in half gallon mason jars with a couple desiccant packets and they will last for a long long time. If you don't have any desiccant, you'll probably be fine if you dry them for 24 hours.

I keep mine in bags or jars loaded with desiccant too. Five hours isn’t enough unless they’re tiny shrooms and you live in a very dry climate.

Thanks!

I put them in for another 5 hours and they came out a lot better.  Some were even brittle when slight pressure was applied.

Thanks again!

I always dehydrated full blast (165F) then store in Mason jar with oxygen absorbing packets from beef jerky bags

Do you then put in the freezer or just at room temp?

Mine usually snap into tiny pieces if I squeeze gently between my fingers.

I keep them at room temp, either in a drawer or dark closet.

Freezer would be cool but the way mush cult goes you’d need a dedicated shroom freezer after a few months.

Room temp is fine for long term storage. I've had jars sit in the back of a closet for over a year and be perfectly fine.

A good indicator that they are really fully dried is hold the stem and try to move the cap around with your finger. It shouldn't budge. If there is any give at all, it isn't dry enough. You aren't going to damage them by drying a little too long but you'll certainly damage them by not drying long enough.

Oh they are so dry the cap just comes right off of some.  Lots of stems separated from the cap.

Yeah room temp. Preferably in a dark place like a drawer.

I gotta dehydrator with temp setting. I set it to 105. It’s more the cycle of air I think that dries them. After there as dry as I can get them I put them in a small tote layered with paper towels and damp rid on the bottom and a couple damp rid lids to separate the mushrooms from it. I found that if you get them as dry as possible. Before you put them with the damp rid that it won’t get all damp and be a problem. It does a great job of sucking all the remaining water out. Even after there frozen you don’t see any condensation in the bags even though I put a desiccant packet in with them then vacuum seal. Just made some chocolates with last years harvest and they seem just as potent as the day they were clipped.

You can go full blast without harming potency. Psilocybin melting point is 428-442(farenheit)
