Small fruits help
    #26825832 - 07/15/20 07:33 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Most tubs I have right now generate small fruits I dunno if this is pure genetics or what.. ms grow btw. can anyone give advice?

This is 30L tubs spawned with 2:1 coir:spawn

4x1" lower holes, taped with 2xmicropore, 2x1" upper holes, taped once with micropore..

Walls and surface are moist.. theyre on the front porch so we also have ambient light. What could I have done wrong? Thanks.

Lanky fruits with small caps point towards oxygen depravation, and judging from the look of your sub surface and the inside of the tub, I'd say FAE is too low, there's not a whole lot noticeable evaporation going on so I'd flip the lid on that tub and increase FAE gradually until I notice that a visible amount of evaporation is occurring throughout the day requiring me to mist lightly once a day. Many ways to skin a cat I just try to mimick how cubes grow in nature

Are they still small? Getting bigger?

How thick is your substrate?

The higher substrate/surface area the bigger the fruits.

Ive had hpoo 6 inches deep in bags produce monstrous 14 inchers

This could be a single factor with your issue or the whole problem if you're only an inch deep with substrate.

3" deep substrate.

Actually. From the pins forming before, I can already tell theyd be like this small..  you can actually foresee how big your mushrooms are gonna be from the pins.. im trying to improve my fae now. I hope they get better, if not, Id just cross my fingers to get better 2nd flushers..

Thanks for the replies

Overly wet substrates can also cause small mushrooms. Was it on the wetter side?

Probably a bit wetter than normal field capacity but im only accounting my a bit of a wet side prep due to the overly humid kinda atmosphere we have here. Sometimes i cant even complete colonization without the surface drying out. Ill take note of that.

Im now opening the lid about twice a day to let things evaporate and mist it from there. Thanks for the replies.

Drying out surface shouldn't be an issue during colonization of bulk sub, try fixing the moisture level in the bulk sub instead. Gl

Im also inclined to think i get small fruits because of sorghum. I mean, I never had this small fruits when I was using whole oats. Whole oats might be uber nutritious than sorghum. I posted this inquiry in the AMU thread but never got replies.
