When do you think mushrooms will be legalized? * 1
    #26825763 - 07/15/20 06:44 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Here in OR I figure no more than 5 years.  I expect they will be sold thru weed shops since the volume isn't as great.  Looking forward to legal production of some exotic strains... :mushroomgrow:

What y'all think?  :solidnod:

Definitely miss the Amsterdam smart shops....

I'd say at least 10 more years. A lot more places need to decriminalize before anyone will talk legalization, IMO.  I also expect a whole lot more slippery-slope argument that first it was weed, and now shrooms, and then who knows and THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

In Australia, people are not even aware of the extensive scientific work looking at the effect of psilocybin on the mental well-being of terminal cancer patients LET ALONE the evidence of general self-actualisation and self-transcendence anecdotally amassing in underground realms like this one.

Hardly even on the populus' radar.

30 years minimum. I doubt I'll see it in my lifetime. But many places independently will probably go the route of places like Denver or Santa Cruz and make possession essentially legal.

Need a few more University studies so that there's a better case for medical mushrooms. Thin end of the wedge.

In Oregon we had the whole debate on the way to legal weed.  The weed won and there hasn't been any real blow back.

There is or will be (depending on the petition status) a measure to legalize psilocybin therapy under controlled conditions, similar to how medical weed got started.  I expect a faster acceptance plan, in part thanks to the manifold benefits mushrooms already demonstrate in studies.  They are literally life changing for some intractable conditions.  And that's really just the tip of the iceberg.

I'll start something organized within a few years here if nothing happens though. :havesomescience:

After Denver decriminalized shrooms, there were a whole bunch of ads taken out saying that the state was going to become a drug tourist mecca and that a small group of hippies were going to ruin the state for everyone if this wasn't stopped.  First it's weed, now shrooms, stop the madness!  And it seemed to resonate, as the traction to decriminalize state-wide stopped.

OR's medical petition got the signatures and is going to a vote in November.  So we'll see what happens there.  But I think this is going to be much more of an uphill battle.

Weird since decriminalization does not mean you can legally grow or sell, so I don't see how it would become a tourist attraction as shops won't be selling it.

I doubt it, although I don't live in Oregon so I can't speak on what the state is doing. My state doesn't even have recreational weed legalized, even though some states around it do, so I imagine it would be another century before mushrooms are legal in a recreational sense.

On a federal level, unless there is massive change within the DEA, I doubt it'll ever be legal (even though mushrooms are a very low priority for them).

However, I think it depends on the political landscape at the end of this year and moving forward. I feel like America, at this moment, has too much crap going on to care about legalizing things.

If that changes, and we stabilize as a country, I hope we can really revisit the issues surrounding psychedelics. I sure hope they'll be legal in my lifetime.

Very optimistic. Those numbers would seem to make it legalized in the world faster than even weed  so I'm skeptical

Hey PrimalSoup

The optimist in me thinks it’s imminent. The realist in me thinks maybe never.

I was brought up with the taboo; that backlash and hippy fall out with Leary et al. Damaged chromosomes. Blinded looking at the sun. Trying to fly out of windows. Just say no.

It has blighted my entire life, because for whatever reason, I have never seen a moral problem with taking drugs. Legally I’ve always been aware and sensible. But I have never been able to shake the stigma.

I am blighted by those stubborn parents and peers who obstinately refuse to budge from the brainwashed agenda that psychedelics and drugs are somehow evil, anti-society, with drug addict connotations.

I think this could be part of the vast tapestry that has been 40 years of depression. I’m the black sheep, or psychedelic sheep of the family!

So even me, 33 years since my first mushroom trip, feel bad when tripping and confronted with a neighbouring allotment holder who has turned up out of the blue to chainsaw down some tree branches. That happened to me Sunday, first lockdown trip.

It’s like a condescending sort of thing I’ve always felt. Especially when I’m under the influence, I get the impression the taboo brigade feel superior to me, and that somehow I am less “human”. He refused to talk to me and walked away. Not what you need when the CEVs are visible under bright sunshine at 2 hours in!!

So I take drugs yet still struggle with the taboo. Politicians will cling on to the political MasterCard that is “the war on drugs” for as long as possible. And certainly while the majority of politicians are lobbied by the pharmaceutical industries.

Let’s hope the scientific evidence becomes irrefutable. But even then, I can only see legalised retreat centres being set up. Anything else would be too radical I fear :cookiemonster:

Great thread, by the way, could get really interesting

❤️

I would think a normal person doesn't even know what a psychedelic is and whenever they hear "drug" they immediately think of stuff like heroin and cocaine and then of course answer remains "no".

Well IMHO that's just yer goddamn anti-synchronicity kicking in.  "What is the worst possible thing that could happen if I go there and trip today?"

Setting, like I said.

I had a delivery guy from a local restaurant show up in the middle of a trip one day.  Insisted it was the right house, wanted to give me the food.  Maybe I shouldn't have refused it...

The people at your door is easy. Don't even bother. Just relax and let them be. I don't answer my door well I don't get many visitors now days with lock downs.

But I used to answer my door when I first moved in. Anybody I wanted over would text me or call and randos seem to consist of the religious. My neighbor even know I don't answer as he found out. I gave him my number if he needed me.

Realistically it doesn't matter when they decide. We've been doing the doing this long and who's going to tell you to stop? Has it worked? One day the sun will shine upon us and it will be a good thing but we will continue on as if it was always like this. The work continues.

It should be that simple - the door was wide open and I'm way fried and carrying some sort of incriminating object through the hall right there when this guy shows up and wants to deliver the food.  I can't not answer the door because there's no door there to answer, just the person showing up my trip. :laugh2:

The answer of course is close the door first which is what I usually do.  But shit finds a way to fuck you up when you trip. :thataintright:

Of course I'll never stop.  But I talk it up a lot with people and often enough they hesitate because of the illegality.  Just want more people to enjoy the benefits and experience. :yinyang2:

Oh well God damn the door. They're slippery. I know.

When I was younger I went to knock on a house and the guy sat in his chair not even looking. He had a huge window. So that's a solid strategy.

Truffles are still legal in Holland; but mushrooms were made illegal, against a national vote, after a few “tourist deaths and incidents”. 2nincidents spring to mind; a teenage girl drowned, and some bloke killed his dog with a pair of scissors, and blamed the mushrooms.

The dog story was particularly upsetting; but at least nobody had damaged chromosomes, nobody jumped out of a window trying to fly, and at least nobody went blind staring at the sun :cookiemonster:

Take care

It makes me sad but probably not for a very long time. Drug laws in America are non-sensical. Drugs law is influenced by public opinion and the majority of the public views everything other than alcohol and tobacco as taboo.
