Is this shoebox too wet? And possible contam?

Started 4 shoeboxes about a week ago, a couple look like this with the pooling water along the edge. I made sure the coir was just at field capacity.
Also, unsure what to think of the white fluffy 'bumps' in a couple of spots.
I was trying to avoid opening at all until ready to induce pinning, but wanted to get a good picture.
First timer, any help would be appreciated.

I would monitor it for now, could be anything, could be nothing. You'll definitely want to gently dab up excess pooling water with the tip of a clean paper towel, just don't go overboard.
If your spawn is clean, the grow will more than likely be clean.

My spawn was oats, which were started from some good healthy myc off agar, 2nd transfers iirc.
I'll dab up the excess water and continue to watch them. Thanks!

7/19 update... I have pins! Still looks quite wet and there are a bunch of side pins. Should I flip the lids today while I'm home to give more air, or let them be for now?

flip the lid and let it naturally evaporate. some source of light will be good too avoid misting it just need fresh air.

Good deal, I'll flip the lids. Wasn't planning on misting as there's plenty of surface droplets. These are sitting in front of a window that gets a few hours of direct sunlight a day.

Also next time put some black trash bag material around the bottom so they don't try to fruit on the sides, otherwise looks good.

avoid sunlight you never know what kind of bacteria need light and heat to wake up better get a led light or room light is perfect and i think you are good for two flushes. black trash bag works well.

Oh dang ok, I'll move them to where they just get ambient light. I have a small green house and led strip but haven't set it up yet. Going to put it in the basement, which stays in the mid to upper 60s.. Likely will have slower growth, but will be better controlled. Also, I may colonize boxes upstairs where it's around 70 then move them downstairs when ready to fruit. I've read that slightly lower temps make things go a little slower but makes contam less of an issue and can produce denser fruits 🤷🏻‍♂️ still new and trying to get this hobby figured out lol.. So far have felt pretty good with my agar success and grain jars success though, so now just need to dial in the actual grows.

you are doing fine for first grow. i have read threads here people accidentally mist there tubs with fabric softer. led strip works being using it for five years and i can take slow growth on any day but contaims are so much waste of hard work. never go beyond 83f or 28c and never lower than 70f or 21c. in between these temps is fine and so far you are doing well. good luck with grow

Thanks, pretty happy so far! I too have read some pretty bad blunders lol.. I did a ton of reading and spent time working with agar and getting some good grain spawn going, and just went with what I read. Definitely have learned a fair bit about what I'll do differently next go around.
For now, though.. These boys are starting to look great, despite quite a few side pins. Trying to decide if I should harvest these two bigger ones and just let the others grow, or give them another day or two..

Didn't think so. The tallest one is about to the lid. Guess I'll dub tub it, or do the plastic sack method.

Both work well.
I ran a ton of shoeboxes with different depths and the only thing I noticed was that thicker ones always had to be dubbed cuz there’s not enough room.
Now I stick to about 2.5 inches.

Makes sense. I did a 2:1 coir to spawn ratio this time, next time may go 1.5 or 1:1 instead. Also plan on following the sff tek, making the coir slightly under field capacity and then doing a thin coir layer on top and misting it.

You must be using two quarts of spawn then right?
I always do one and like 3 of coir.

Pastywhyte said: 1:1 is a total waste of spawn IMO. You can’t supply nearly enough water to make the most of the nutes at that ratio.

Correct, 2 quarts coir to one of sub.
Right on, the more I've read I see many talking about doing one quart to several of coir. Guess it partially depends on how many jars you have ready to go.

Word, thanks for sharing that bit of advice. Certainly makes sense. I'll stick with what has worked so far. My main focus next go around needs to be perfecting my surface conditions.. Something I was aware of, but didn't quite get it down this time!
