Hello All
I spawned these 18 days ago and have yet to get pins. lots of knots but no pins
I feel like I may have packed my sub too tight and it's restricting growth perhaps.
I have 2 unmodded dubtub shoeboxes and 1 that follows BOD's shoebox Tek with the grocery bag
My spawn was clean (pictured) and I've misted it only 2 times since spawning per BOD's Tek
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yeah it's just not quite there yet. The surface usually becomes all connected and covered in mycelium before pins. Make sure you have enough moisture, like little droplets condensating on the surface. Never pack it but from the sides. You are close though.

Nah looks good, I see moisture on the surface tho that sub probably wouldn't mind a few squirts of fine mist. Maybe I also see early fruit formation mostly on the left side of the sub, hard to tell this early and from the pics.

You've got knots forming on the left side of the picture, those will turn into pins in the next few days. I'd mist it a bit, keep humidity and temp steady and you'll be good in a few days.

And after you lightly mist it leave it the fuck alone so you can have mushrooms. Basically the only thing you need to do is to give it light 12 hours on and 12 hours off.

12h of light a day works, as does 6h a day, or 18h or 24h, it doesn't really matter that much since mushrooms arent plants, they're more like living creatures. If you sit in a dark room and play video games for a week, you'll probably resemble cubes a lil that were grown in darkness, meaning a bit pale and sickly looking. A few hours of natural daylight is more than enough for human and cubensis IME.

UPDATE:
after noticing no change in growth, I decided to break one up and check for contam. What I found was no contam but large uncolonized chunks of coir. The smell of fresh mushroom was very very strong and no other smells present. I believe that I packed the substrate far too tightly. So I broke them all up and combined two into one tub. I'm hoping that these will recover and colonize. If I can get a single decent flush out of these I will be happy.

Thats possible. I mean if you dont see an apparent contamination, especially after this much time. You may be fine. Lets hope for the best. update when things change.

Sometimes they take that long to start pinning. One I recall took about 20 and went on yield nearly 800g wet, so it's not something to worry about yet. If it goes a month with nothing popping up, then it's probably not worth hanging onto.
One of those subs looks pretty shallow. I also see grains at the top layer, so I'm guessing they don't have the usual thin coir pseudocasing. I don't think either of those are causing a problem per se, but they are going to make things more sensitive to drying out.
-------------------- "I thought to myself 'Boy, I'm sure glad there's nobody here to see this because this is exactly the sort of thing that gets people riled-up and they assume you're dying and that something has to be done. Where if you're alone, you know, you either come through it or you die, but in any case you avoid the fuss.'" - Terrence McKenna

Should I maybe give it a casing layer? I didn't think it was necessary
