Let this broken veil stay for the sake of the cluster?

Pretty sure these veils are broken. They’re only 2”. It’s my first harvest attempt and I’m not 100% on the broken veil, but pretty sure. I picked one yesterday that was a little bigger with the same look to it. It tasted great, but only an inch or so longer.
Looks like I will be running into this issue fairly often with this brick (it’s from a kit- I know, I know), so was hoping to get some insight into this ASAP. Tons and tons of pins, but they are clustered and varied in development. I know I have to determine the variables that are causing the maturity at such a size (most likely strain or the contents of the kit itself), but of course I wanna learn from this and salvage fruit as efficiently as possible.
We can get into methodology, but I’ll be following a bonafied tek soon and for now I’d like to see what you guys think about harvesting these small fruits as they grow.
I really appreciate all the info here. You guys are selfless.

I wouldn't take my word for this as I've only gone through a single flush on my first grow, but I've picked a few of the mature ones and didn't notice stunting or a slowdown in the others, in fact after picking my first flush it seemed like growth was much quicker for the remaining fruits, as if they had less competition for nutrients

Those still have a ways to go. You don't need to harvest right when the veil breaks that's just a thing people say to avoid getting spores all over. If I had especially small or few mushrooms I'd let them grow out as big as possible before they go spore crazy. And even if they do drop spores it's ok it just looks funky and can be messy harvesting.
Once they really mature you can just cut the ones that are ready with a scalpel or scissors and then see what the other ones from the cluster will do. Usually they will be fairly close to done themselves.

Thanks to you both. I really was hoping to get more growth. As a noob (and anxious AF), I’ve been carefully monitoring the veils. I was discouraged to see that they are breaking so soon. I’m on day 5 since noticeable pins, so I’ll wait and hope for bigger fruits. Do the caps seem small for this stage? Should the veils be breaking with such a small width of caps?

They are definitely on the smaller side. First flushes usually have smaller fruits, compared to the next flushes from that same sub. Like you said it's a kit so you have no idea what all went into it, how long ago etc etc.
The whole thing will still grow some as the cap lightens and then starts to flatten and the veil will stretch and when it breaks from that stretching that's the time people are referring to.

That veil isn’t broken, it’s still unfolding itself. Give it a day and it will be stretched taunt. The day after it will break.

Yeah the veils often start like a single accordian fold, what you see in your pic is the bottom of the fold. As Pasty says once the caps get bigger it will stretch out and you will see how it's attached.

I was convinced that the lower section pulling off the stem was the veil “breaking” lol. I have never seen a good picture of that. It’s amazing what you learn actually seeing this process.

Depending on what you're growing, the veil can hold on for a long while... I've had a few different 'strains' that the veil doesnt even break.
