hi. I am trying to go from jar to substrate but am confused. Cvg vs plain coco. Will I be ok using just cooked coco and mixing up a jar in it? Will they grow ok or do I need to really use vermiculite and gypsum? Is there a guide for cvg? This i am trying to learn and its my first go. I work so I need best way for minimal watering. No contam in my 1st 8 jars so good start.

I don't know CVG? Maybe its some nick that stuck for some mix for a short time and since I don't grow actives at all I don't keep up with every new slang term. But coir is for actives not for Gourmet. Coir just doesn't have all the nutrients that Gourmet needs and for the most part nobody that grows Gourmet uses coir. You may get someone every so often that will try it but..........
If you are growing Gourmet.. each of them has different needs. So, you should mention which particular Gourmet you are going to grow so we can better answer. Masters Mix grows a huge variety very well So you would be best off with that if you can get it, unless you are growing Shiitake. Straw works for a lot of Gourmet, except shiitake. And there are other subs.. just depends on what mushroom you are growing. you don't need vermiculite nor gypsum for Gourmet. Although if you are growing grains in jars adding some gypsum to your soak water will help breaking the grains up after they are colonized.
-------------------- Plan to win or you are planning for failure. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. Just figure out the solution. Even if that means banging your head on a wall until the solution oozes out of you.

What you want is hardwood fuel pellets. They are about $5 for a 40 lb bag and either bran or soy hulls. HWFP and soy hulls are what seagu is talking about when he says, masters mix. Soy hulls will outperform bran by quite a bit so if you can find soy hulls get them.
Be careful with the water in your sub-mix field capacity is different from fuel pellets than it is with coir. With fuel pellets take a handful and squeeze really hard 1 drop is all you should get at the most. It is best to do the microwave test for water content. I have a post on how to get the right water content.
weights are in lbs except for the water. When I did bran I use Espoma chicken manure. Gypsum if you have it use it if not I wouldn't bother buying it...

This is where I get my bags. Get the 14A bags...

Posted in wrong forum lol
You can use straight coir or cvg both work well
DONT substitute coffee in place of gypsum, coffee is extremely prone to contamination and requires PASTURIZATION not sterilization and the bucket tek isnt good enough for coffee
