Used an Airfryer to dehydrate and had reduced potency
    #26819821 - 07/12/20 04:27 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or could give some tips on how I screwed up haha.

First flush was dried using a fan for over 12 hours then stuck in a mason jar with a descant.

The following flushes were placed in a Phillips turbo star air fryer at 150 degrees Fahrenheit for two hours. The mushrooms were split in half down the steam to allow for faster drying. After two hours they were as dry and dry can be.

The mushrooms from the air fryer were about 50% less potent that first flush that just used a fan.

That Phillips air fryer uses a powerful fan, could drying to quickly be the issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I wouldn't split them personally, but I doubt that was the trouble. I would assume the problem is that it's not a dehydrator.    Use the proper tool for the job.

Next time use a real dehydrator, they're cheap, or just the oven on the lowest setting with the door open

Worst case you can always make a fresh extract and freeze it.

The air fryer is supposed to be able to be used as a dehydrator which is why I used it. Not sure if the forceful fan along with heat could of caused the potency loss. Everything I read talks about these guys using a dehydrator for 12-24 hrs. So getting cracker dry in 2 hours might be too much too fast. Which is disappointing because its so easy with the air fryer.

Might've been your air fryer if the temp was too high. Can you adjust it? Also, cubes can vary wildly in potency so maybe they just weren't as strong as the others. Hard to say really!

I've used my air fryer for smaller batches set at 185 with no loss in potency, but it takes more than 2 hours. Usually I go at least 6

Why don't people want to buy a food dehydrator? Nesco makes one for like $60 that has lasted me years and dried a lot of fungus fruit. Never had dampness issues or potency problems.

I dont know dude. I was trying to avoid it too. Even figured I could use my oven since its a modern oven with a fan and heat can be djusted to be pretty low. But then I figured, if everyone here is recommending a dehydrator, and I have spent so much time waiting for my fruits... why ruin that?

I bought a new one for like 40$ online. Right now Im using it for the first time dehydrating some fruits for my wife because she started eating only healthy stuff. ITs useful! and if you get tired of it you can just resell it online! We live in the age of the circular economy.

PEople just use the right tool for the job.

Probably just random ms potency. I can’t imagine there’s such a thing as drying too fast but who knows.

That or maybe they weren’t totally dry.
