Lions Mane Sausages Grow Log Tub

Hello,
Last time I was on this forum posting it was about Reishi mushroom. This time I am growing Lions Mane. I am using a different method I came up with, so feel free to duplicate if you like the results. My goal is a sea of Lions Mane in the tub like a cubensis monotub. (I unfortunately cannot grow anything scheduled and cannabis is fun enough in Canada anyway.) They are growing in moist sawdust inoculated with rye grain that was injected with liquid culture I purchased. I made a 4% honey solution and continued the culture in many new jars. I guess I should keep in the fridge and every four months redo the inoculation to keep it alive.
To start with:
You need rye grain. I used filter patch bags and jars. To keep it simple all you need is 3/4 cup water to one cup rye grain and pressure cook it. After you have your culture, you inject it into the cooled jars in a flowhood or glove box and the filter patch bags the same way...unless the bags dont fit nicely in the glove box like me and you have to do some sterile in air injection (which still worked out fine) When the rye grain is inoculated, wait until white with mycelium like usual and then you can use it to spawn your moist saw dust. Next you need the sawdust. I used wood pellets that expand a billion times the size with water, so all you need I found is about: 5L of boiling water 16 cups of pellets. Add to a bucket and add the boiling water evenly, mix lightly, but thorough and add the lid for the cool down process.
Next you add the spawn to the saw dust, again mix thoroughly and as sterile as possible and add them to your sausages. (They are really polypropylene bags on a roll that you can get any diameter from Uline)
Have an end heat sealed obviously and all you need to do is fold then over when you added the mixture, with pressure from fitting them into the tubs in a row seems to be fine. Wipe down everything with those rare sterilizing wipes that people shower with and make some one inch slits in the bags, staggering the slits along the top on the bags only, so they grow a sea of mushrooms. I think the surface area based on the thickness of the bags might be perfect and you can stack the bins easily.
Here are some pictures so far...

Up next will be some update pictures and I will also attempt to grow Amanita muscaria in bins and I think I know what is required to do so, but I cant guarantee I will be successful. The key might be adding Xylitol for that reason of symbiotic relationship (birch has this compound in the sap along with others it grows by....i have to test it out so I purchased a bunch of xylitol. I am in the process of making dishes, so it willbe some time before I will do a (hopefully successful) writeup of my research)
Have a great week, Happy Canada Day!

Very cool! I wanna see it when the fruits get bigger in there! I feel like you're gonna have trouble getting them enough air though.

Thanks for the input. Yea it might, so i decided to not be as lazy and i will gas it with my tank of oxygen every-so-often. Might as well experiment.
The most interesting of all would have to be my attempt i will post abou5 growing Amanita muscaria....i am waiting for some sterile plates to blast into liquid culture and then rye grain spawning into the casing containing xylitol at the bottom for the mycelium reach to the "roots". Tubs would be very rare and exciting i can eat these from my growroom. I will keep everyone updated!

Here is an update. I added oxygen gas yesterday and will continue with this treatment to see how it grows.

Ok I was thinking about it and I will see how it works without adding oxygen gas. I am probably ruining the original experiment for others that want to see how it would be, so I will be doing the usual airing and occasional spraying. I think it will turn out fine... (I have a bunch of liquid culture if I want to redo anyway.)
Toss this back over here...

It's not a loss if the fruits grow all air-starved, they'll still be just as good dried and powdered for tincture so no worry

Update! They seem to be growing well. Not perfectly covered throughout, but close. I think there is enough gas exchange when you just air them out a couple times a day.

There's not, you can see it in the fruits already, but I'm sure they'll still be delicious

I will see in a couple more weeks of growing. They seem healthy to me. They are too small to consume a mass amount of air and the daily routine of airing seems to be sufficient. This is proving to be a good method/alternative to bag growing that is very common. I like to think outside the box a bit. The Amanita muscaria plates are also in the works and I will keep everyone posted.

I am a newbie, but why do you need the bags? Could you not simply place a layer of sawdust on the bottom of the plastic tray? I do not understand the need for the bags.

You have to keep the moisture and sterility of how they colonized intact, since they take like 3 weeks to grow. You can probably add a layer to the bottom of a tub and add plastic strips with an opening in the center between strips for growth, which I will probably try.

Also, and most importantly I would say, is the fact that the bags keep the substrate separate from the fruits. Otherwise you have a giant mess of lion's mane fruit attached to the entire surface of the substrate, harvesting would be a nightmare.
I wouldn't do the layer of plastic idea, I think they'll just fruit under it unless you can keep it real tight. The way you've got it is probably better.

Yea, it’s possible...I definitely want to test it out next.
So far they are doing good. Not sure why that void patch in the upper right though...

That would be a great way to grow LM for medicinal uses, not having to worry about FAE and all that. Gonna be a nice easy harvest too!

Watch for teeth, they may be ready sooner than that, depending on what you're using them for.
You gonna eat 'em or use for medicine?
