Not surprised at all. I feel like I’m changing as a person but this type has been with me the entire time I’ve been taking these tests. Except for the random ENFJ results where I’m feeling pretty social in life. My thinking and observing percentages went down!! But I guess mother would be proud I’m finally boosting that intuition and feeling heh. Makes for reading cards better as well.

I think I’m always going to be in the middle with making decisions, planning and work. Sometimes it will take me absolutely forever bc I am weighing the pros and cons, the best route, risk evaluation, of most things in my life. Planning for the long term is very detailed for me, with specific time frames of completing tasks. Short term is spontaneous and chaotic. As long as I keep following my carrot I put up for myself in the end, I feel like I’m heading in the right direction. With work I am constantly analyzing time management with amount of work that I can do, being smarter not harder, but not taking shortcuts that’ll end up making me do a subpar job. It’s all very boring. But it makes me really good at board games.

I have taken the "Please understand me" book version back in the late 90's. Then again ten years later and scored the same. I'll take the one remake posted tonight and see how it goes. I was the same 10 years apart though. These tests are interesting, but I will not base my thoughts/life/decisions on some personality test. I can and do get very judgmental.

Yep I took the book test way back in the 90s too. And sporadically since. Still INFP

:sambergfive:

Only started scori differently in the last couple years and that coincides with alot of work to change my thoughts and how I look at the world. Think that's pretty cool.

Interesting. I have reliably gotten INTJ in the past (Architecht), but taking the test in your link I got INFP-T - Mediator.

I've always identified with the INTJ descriptions, but then again I think these things are like horoscopes and you hear what fits into your life. A few bits from Mediator that ring true to me:

  • Mediators are led by the purity of their intent, not rewards and punishments.
  • People with the Mediator personality type have no interest in having power over others, and don’t much care for domineering attitudes at all.
  • They prefer a more democratic approach, and work hard to ensure that every voice and perspective is heard.
  • Their shyness keeps them from the podium, but they are the first to lend a helping hand where it’s needed.
  • Friendships are earned on their own merit, by dint of the intuitive respect Mediators have for those with similar principles and values, rather than more practical alignments like those of coworkers.
  • value harmony, need an emotional and moral connection to their work, and loathe bureaucratic tedium

Although it also says I'm supposed to be an optimist which is definitely not true. I'm forever convinced the worst will happen and focusing on the dark side.

And also says I dislike dealing with data, preferring the big picture, which is also not true (literally applicable to my job, so I know)

While I sometimes gain energy by spending time with others, I more often feel drained in situations with not enough alone time.

Based on stories my parents have told me, I've been an introvert my whole life, so I don't think it was learned. Even though I'm an only child, I would sometimes just disappear from a room of other kids and could be found somewhere alone to get some space. The other kids were too loud or there was one pushy kid and I didn't want to deal so I just peaced out, etc. Although I'm sure other life experiences have added to my introversion along the way, if 3 years old me liked my alone time then I'm voting for nature at least as strong as nurture.

I have in the past scored as an INTJ (I'm actually trying to become an architect, lol) and even an ENFP. I wouldn't take these tests to be the end-all be-all of our personalities, but there is definitely something in there, imo. At least to ponder.

I'm a middle child.

I wonder if current stresses are not what is influencing your score.

I can identify quite a lot with the INFP traits...

I was always a goofball and would try to make people laugh.

Had a wild imagination as a kid, and to some extent, still do.

I would establish very close relationships with my friends. I had/have a lot.

I loved playing on my own though, and would always be busy with something creative, even at school I would doodle all the time in my books.

I will sometimes purposefully skip out on parties and such, especially now that I'm not in any sort of schooling system, because I frankly have a better time doing whatever I want, and how I want.

I found it difficult to truly express myself in large groups growing up as I would feel overwhelmed by all the perceptions coming at me and didn't like the 'hierarchy' that comes with such scenarios. I always was very empathetic towards the 'underdogs'.

Not to boast, or anything, but I was fairly popular in school, and university, too. Even though I tended to be quiet in public places, when it was just me and a few close friends, I would become very talkative and expressive.

In my opinion insecurity and confidence are two totally different things than introversion and extroversion. I think most people do not understand this.

I'm not very detail oriented, but can be a perfectionist when I'm truly motivated and inspired.

I was also always philosophical. But as it relates to authenticity, I like developing my own, unique philosophy and outlook on life.

I wouldn't be surprised if my score had actually changed a bit because I have changed. That said, this test is different questions than I remember so I think that's part of it.

According to the recent test, I've become more Feeling and Perceptive versus Thinking and Judging. I think I was always on the border of those (don't remember what my percentages were but they were somewhere around 60/40 I believe).

I'm pretty good at thinking things through logically and when I have a negative emotional response to something, I turn to logic to temper it. 2 years ago I would have said that this approach was my default and I tended to be more logical than emotional. But I had some relationship stuff go south in a way that I couldn't explain using logic and it definitely had an impact. Emotional/Feeling has been a bit in the lead in some areas lately, so I think my answers reflect that. Probably too soon to say if it's a permanent change.

P/J: In some ways I'll always be a "planner": my financial planning, for instance. I'm happier when I know I'm prepared for various eventualities, and prefer that feeling of preparedness over perhaps more fun but less practical things I could spend money on.

But in other things I like to imagine the possibilities and go with the flow. I went on my first solo vacation to another country and planned where I was staying and a few tours I had to book in advance, but for a few days I just did whatever I felt like. It was nice to not have every minute of every day planned out, like I remember my family vacations. And  exploring the unknown possibilities is part of why I'm here on this site in the first place.

While the MBIT can tell you what you think like at a snapshot in time, it can't tell you anything more complex about WHY you think that way. Certain traits may be part of your nature and unlikely for you to truly change. Others may be possible for you to change if you are working on yourself. These may differ from person to person.

Totally agree with this. I had a co worker who I would have definitely guessed to be an extrovert: he was always talking with people about all sorts of things, starting conversations proactively, one of those people whom a room tends to revolve around just based on their outward energy.

I was talking to him in a group setting over drinks after work and he said he was actually very introverted and had just learned to use all those "extrovert" like techniques. So self nurture, basically. And I think you need lots of self confidence to do that in the first place.

My own approach is now to ask myself if there is something I want to accomplish. Do I want more friends? Do I want to be perceived a certain way so that I can contribute ideas and they will be accepted more readily because people like and respect me more? If the answer is yes, then I'm ok with trying to change my default behaviors to meet those goals. Maybe to be more "extroverted" but definitely to still stay true to myself under it all.

In other words, it's a good thing to change yourself in the eyes of others if doing so gets you closer to the person you want to be based on your own terms. Only if you're trying to change yourself solely for others is that unhealthy.

We sound like similar people, remake. I wonder if this hobby lends itself to people with certain personality traits.

I tend to prefer hobbies that are somewhat creative but also have some technical aspects to them that I can work towards fully understanding and then mastering. I also like hobbies that have practical and usable applications; I need a product in addition to enjoying the process. I gravitate towards solitary hobbies I can do on my own, but it's best when I can share knowledge and learn from others.

Mycology has been the perfect new pursuit for me because it ticks all these boxes, which I can thanks the Shroomery community for.

I can understand and relate to what you've said as well.

I also believe we should only change ourselves if we want to, or if we feel personal growth and discovery is what we want to accomplish.

I like the introspection of my creative pursuits but also enjoy learning new things and teaching in some instances too.

I think certain personalities gravitate towards certain aspects of psychedelics for sure. For me I find the consciousness expanding qualities of it very interesting. I like exploring and testing out new ideas. I really like the effect it has on a person's creativity.

The fact that we are communicating on a forum, which most people would find "weird" or "out-dated", also speaks, imo, to the fact that most of us here are pretty open-minded, and unique individuals.
