WHAT'S WRONG WITH SMELLY MANURE COMPOST?
    #2681942 - 05/15/04 12:56 PM (13 years, 13 days ago)

I recently pasteurized store bought composted sheep manure. It did not smell before pasteurization, but now that it is moist from pasteurization, it really reeks of fresh manure odour. Is the pasteurized manure safe for spawning?

I've pasturized composted manure before and it didn't smell this bad (this time it literally smells like dung). Does the smell mean the manure hasn't been fully composted? And is smelly manure compost any richer in nutrients than odourless compost?

Did you leach it real good?
I have taken fresh manure and leached it really good and it smelled just like a good compost. No dung smell at all.

The manure compost was store-bought. So leaching helps remove the odour? Does it impact the effectiveness of pasturization?

My mind is gone today for some reason man,My bad I thought you were reffering to field manure.

edit=I have noticed the same thing in store bought poo also,I think its its the clumps of poo thats in it.I have smelled them before pasteurising and they were rank!Even after they still had that smell, not as strong as before but it was there. That casing I used it on never fruited either. It just pinned in a few spots and they all aborted.I havent used it since.
This was with cow manure, not sheep.

My 2 pennies

So can fresh dung (right out the horse's ass) be pasturized and spawned?

yes,if you leach it thouroughly. It is an awefull process but I find it works well, but when the leaching is done I sun dry mine.
Be right back,I take pic of fresh horse poo that has been leached well and sun dried !
