Is my agar too nutritious?
    #26818608 - 07/12/20 01:57 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

10 gr agar
8 gr LME
500ML WATER

Almost all of my growth is super white, but super fluffy. Less LME? I also use breathable Petri dishes 60mm and wrap in parafilm. Do they need more fae? what you think mates? I can post oics if need but theyre in my profile

Plates don’t need FAE nor do colonizing substrates. FAE would just dry your plate out. Tomentose mycelium can sometimes indicate high nutrition but, sometimes it’s also just genetics.

Pics also would help if you were worried about contams. Many thousands of species have white fluffy mycelium. The growth pattern is usually how we decide what to keep and what to get rid of.

All of my T0 plates have been tomentose.  T1 transfers have started showing MUCH stronger mycelium, on the same exact agar from the same culture.  I think from what I've seen it's genetics + isolation.  T2 seems to go stronger rhizo, I am still working on getting to T5 to get the really good looking plates but there's definitely a T0 spore pattern of tomentose on everything I've ever had.

It's (seemingly) helping me to put 4 wedges on each agar plate and choose the strongest of the 4 to isolate on the next generation plates.

Spore inoculated plates will often be very tomentose. It’s simply due to the thousands of strains dog piled in together. None of the rhizomorphic strains can be distinguished in the mass of genetics.

Yea that's all totally normal. Tomentose plates will often ryzo out when they grow out quite a bit on a plate and near the edge. 60mm plates are pretty tiny and don't let the mycelium really spread its wings. 90-100mm plates are better for this IMO.
