Blue cakes

Hi, this is my first post for this website. Sorry if not in right section. I was doing the pf tek method when shortly after the veil breaking of the fruiting bodies, my cakes have started to turn blue. So I read up on it and from what I figure, my mycelium is in distress, I need to harvest and then dunk again. I was just making sure it’s not a contamination and the fungi are safe to eat. Thanks in advance.

You’re all good just bruising dunk and roll for that second flush! Nice job!!!! Also possibly could be too much FAE but I’d wait for someone more experienced to fact check that to be safe.

Thank you for the knowledge, I did read other posts about it but really wanted to make sure and get an individual evaluation. I have dunked them for the night and will focus on more air to the bodies next flush, I will admit, that is something I slacked on a bit. Again, thank you

Didn’t read that carefully, too much fae? Ok, I’ll definitely note it. I would only mist and waft about twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I’ll focus on less air. Thank you

I dont mean to sound confusing but u want to maximize fae while maintaining humidity. Fae is good as long as its not compromising your humidity in which case you should mist. Dont oversaturate the cakes tho just keep the rh up.

Those look good to me too, dunk the cakes in sterile water and enjoy another flush! Post back if you see anything different from the next round.

Why sterile water?
You rinse under a faucet before and after a dunk.
What would that benefit from?

Oh sorry I just use distilled water for dunking and soaking. I don't usually trust tap water and whatnot. But who knows, could be perfectly fine either way. Especially if you boil it beforehand.

I wouldn`t trust distilled water for dunking. I`d be afraid to have some important ingredients removed in distilled water.
Drinkable tap water is fine, your cakes are fully colonized anyway.
But it won`t hurt i think.

Maybe I'm crazy but I've done some local municipal water samples and I don't really trust what's in my local water. There's even uranium to some extent. And the chlorine, and they publish a water report showing how bad it is (safe for humans) but I just personally don't want it affecting the growth.
I've seen equal benefit from using zerowater filters and distilled water so far, compared to my local tap. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for all the advice guys, will keep you updated. For my flushes, I wash them under tap, and then soak them in filtered water from my purifier.

I do have another quick question guys. Will the bruising go away after a 24 hour dunk or no. And if it supposed to, and the blue is still there, can I roll and set in terrarium, or is the bruising supposed to all go away and there is something wrong with the cakes. Thank you for your replies

 No good my friend.
Chlorine is common for water treatment, here in Germany the limit is 0,3mg per liter. For dunking it`s good to fight off bacteria.
I`m lucky to have it sourced in the `Bodensee`, it`s really good quality.

After dunking your myc should recover.
Just be patient.

So if the bruising doesn’t go away, just roll and observe that the mycelium slowly recover in the terrarium? Sounds good, I’ve had them under a 8 hour dunk so far, and they are still super blue. I’ll wait out the 24 hours and then set them back in and will keep an eye out

Let`s say the bruising is due to lack of moisture, you`re fine to roll. But you can`t observe very much after rolling
It should recover, and some bruising doesn`t hurt fruiting.
