Grains have smell to them due to new drying “technique”
    #26818381 - 07/11/20 10:23 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Decided to try something new that someone else posted, they said they left their grains in a bucket with holes at the bottom for 24hrs, so decided to try it. They weren’t dry so I left them another 24 hr now they smell. Can I just rinse them real good with hot water and begins drying again? I don’t trust just putting them in the PC,  thoughts?

Probably fermented a bit. You could rinse them and use them but do it soon.

If it's not a lot and if they are really stinky, slimy, or sprouted Id start over

Oh not even close to that. I’ve had a little smell after drying quite often actually, this is just a little worse. They’re not slimy at all. I figure whatever bacteria is on them will die in the PC, but wanted a second opinion.

Not a problem, I let grains soak for over 24 hours sometimes. By that point they'll start smelling fermented, I just PC them as usual. Longest I went was 72 hours... Added 30 mins to that run and it was fine. It helps that I soak in cool water, too.
