Lion Mane first grow questions
    #26816532 - 07/11/20 04:37 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hi,

i'm growing hericium coraloid and cirrhatum first time in ice cream bucket, now its time to fruiting I think and I have several questions.

Cirrhatum (agar -> oak, sawdust, vermiculite):

Coraloid (agar -> oak, sawdust, vermiculite):

1. So, its time to fruiting? Decrease temp from 27C to 24C?
2. Do I need to make incisions in the bucket or will it grow on top?
3. Do I need to do cold shock or regidrate its first?

There are also another 3 buckets with its look the same.

1. Sure it won't hurt, but you don't usually need a decrease in temp for lion's mane to fruit.  It does fruit in fall and likes it cool though, so you're good.

2. If you don't make holes for it to grow through, yes it will fruit on top - which is not handy for harvesting fruits.  Usually it's best to use bags because they stick to the substrate and keep fruit from forming there.  Your substrate is a bit loose inside the bucket I can see, so it's gonna be hard to keep it from fruiting inside.  Lion's mane will fruit anywhere it has airspace around the substrate.  You could cut a hole in the bucket, and fill in the airspace at the top of the substrate with something so it doesn't fruit there.  Or you could just let it top fruit and see how that goes, it's up to you.

3. No
