Inoculate pre-made agar plates with spore syringe
    #26815891 - 07/10/20 07:31 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, Compete noob. I’ve been searching the forums and can’t seem to find this. I’m sure it’s here and if someone can point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful.  How can I inoculate some pre-made and sanitized plates with a spore syringe in a way that isn’t super expensive and with the least likelihood of contamination. Best way/temp/time to incubate?

Thanks in advance.

You can make a still air box. That's what most people on here use for pouring agar and inoculating plates and grain.

Incubation is unnecessary. Spores will germinate just fine at normal room temperature 60-75 degrees.

Thank you. Do the spores just go on top, are the injected in?  how much?

It only takes a drop of spore solution. You need to flame sterilize the needle in between plates.

The following link has all the information you need to get started.

the only other direction id point u in is to not buy premade plates. they are super expensive and half of them usually are not even made for mushroom growing. making and pouring agar plates is prolly one of the easiest parts of mushroom cultivation. i however do use a pre mixed agar. all you have to do is add water pressure cook and pour. and a sab works just fine for pouring plates. or u can do a no pour method at first which is what a lot of ppl starting out will do👍👍

I hate pouring plates.  Even tho I have 0% contam after two or three weeks in the fridge after pouring them, I still hate the sealing part.  I use parafilm and it's tricky at first; otherwise yes, simple.
