Shelf Grow Kit worth it?
    #26815610 - 07/10/20 04:57 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I haven't even started growing yet, I'm just doing research right now. I don't have a lot of room and I don't have a good ac in my home, but I've found this  kit that's just shelves, lights, a humidifier, temperature control, and some other tools and accessories. To me, it seems like a good idea, I get all the supplies I need and a small closed-off controllable grow area all at one-time but can still handle the spawn bags and tubs myself. Does this kit seem worth it? Is there anything with this kit that you think is useless?

Link: http://www.midwestgrowkits.com/The-Mushroom-Ecosphere

Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated!

some love kits.
the majority do not.

i suggest no kit outpaces the rewards of a hard core grow campaign.

I have a friend that has had  a lot of success with their kits.  Probably a good starting point if you’re wanting all in one, but if you take your time and research you’ll find several options that will work with a comparable investment.

No they are not worth it. Seriously, go buy a 12pk of half pints, brf, a bag of verm, and a spore syringe. Thats literally all you will need to start growing, save yourself 150 dollars and don't buy that kit. If you don't have a pressure cooker I'd suggest looking for one.

The main reason I tell you this is because when I first started I also bought a kit and soon realized I didn't need 3/4 of it, the rack was ok but everything else was kinda pointless.

Ah okay, so how important is maintaining humidity and temperature then? That was one of my big concerns.

I like brf to start its pretty much an autopilot setup, there are a few steps but for someone who has never grown before its a good starting point. I keep humidity by put a sandwich bag on the top of the half pint and misting the cake with a little water when it needs it. There is literally no need for a tent or a pump or any of that. You need the basic stuff everything you need is in the sticky threads, teks too.

remove vendors name from the post and title. its against the rules there is a sponsors forum. kits suck big floppy donkey balls and i wouldnt buy anything from that god awful place anyways. but im sure while they would appreciate u wasting your $$ on their garbage they would not appreciate the fact that your advertising breaking the law with their products. for the 100,000,000th time were walking the fine line of the law when it comes to spores and shit in the first place so its not a good idea to poke the bear and to just rub it in the faces of the powers that be. we gtta be smart here ppl

Hoooooooolly shit!!

219 dollars?? I’ve never checked out what people were buying before but so many people use them I just checked it out. Seriously makes me want to sell them.

Dude for that price you could buy a pressure cooker, 11lb coir brick, 40lb wbs, a case of jars and ten shoebox tubs and produce 5 pounds of shrooms before needing more of anything.

Plus have enough money left over to buy enough weed to keep you high until they finished growing.

lol I just went through the reviews and half are fakes, just copy paste the same ones over and over. My favorite is “this is perfect for going from monotubs to bulk”.

You know, for those people tired of only getting 8-10oz per tub and want to move to a smaller set up but produce more somehow.

I can appreciate where everyone is coming from by shitting on folks that buy kits.  I get it, my background in ‘playing God’ is saltwater aquaria.  Reef tank bros might be the worst when it comes to shitting on newbs.  But you have to realize that the majority of newbs, such as myself, are coming to this site AFTER investing money in to a kit.

Just sayin.

Look up no pour agar, a grain tek (millet, rye, wbs, oat), and Shoeboxes. Best and easiest way.

I find that in nearly every aspect of life, "kit" is the half ass way to the result. Even lift kits for trucks. I suppose model kits are legit but otherwise most things require less stuff and better shit of the things you do buy.

I’ve been reading this site nonstop since I found it a month or so ago.  Learning an incredible amount and making moves in that direction.  Just need to lay in the bed I’ve made for this first grow and go from there.

So it looks the answer is that I shouldn't get this, but my home is too cold in the winter, too hot the rest of the year, if not something like this then what should I do to keep my stuff at the right temp?

Definitely don't buy a kit. As for cold.... Does it get too cold to live inside your house? If not you're probably OK. My Temps drop to around 50 late at night and while that definitely slows things down its still fine. If you're worried buy a space heater

Sounds like you should have at least 2 months in between each seasonal change. You can do a lot in 4 months of the year. Play with cultures in the meantime, fruit when the season is right.

And what are you calling too hot and too cold?

By too hot I mean like 90, it doesn't stay much warmer than it is outside during winter so if it's 30 outside its around 40 inside. Yes, I know my house has bad insulation lol.

Would it be a good idea to just buy the shelves separately from somewhere cheaper and just get a small cheaper temperature control unit and a humidifier? Would this work?

You don’t need a humidifier for cubes, the tubs will maintain their own climate fine. I run unmodified tubs in a room with 5-10% humidity no problem.

During winter I just used a little 15 dollar space heater set to keep the room in the high 60s.

Summer is proving to be much more difficult but it’s also 110-117 everyday right now.

Look up shoebox threads. You can see in the background here I just have the tubs set wherever.

I think you should do what you want. I understand some people just want some mushrooms and don't care about mycology. Im not a mycology asshole lol. If you're going to use a kit I would use the one on shroomsupply.com.

technically every assembly of supplies is a kit.
the question is assemble the kit yourself,
or , let someone else assemble it.

the subtle difference and results, is the karma of your approach.

I'm serious. Look up pastywhite's no pour plates, look up foomans's WBS (works with millet), and look up mushboy's shoebox. You'll be drowning in shrooms for half the cost
