I have alot of respect for the big amusement park in the state. The governor said y'all can open up now and they were like um yeah we're gonna not.
Hopefully alot of amusement parks in the country are staying closed and taking the time to do maintenance but certainly there are alot that cannot afford to write off the summer.Quote:
gopher said: what does everyone think about wearing things like bandanas or neck gaiters instead of a mask, I didnt have a mask a couple months ago so I queried face bandana into Amazon and it brought up neck gaiters, I never heard of them before but I bought one and thats what I have been wearing when I go into stores, I happened to watch a Dr Oz episode a month ago and they were comparing different face coverings and they said bandanas were the most ineffective thing, that a double layer of a cotton tee shirt even works better, they said to shine a flashlight through materials you are considering and the less light that shines through the better the material
but personally I like wearing a neck gaiter better then wearing a mask, I just dont know if its useless
most places dont think twice about me walking in with one, but I went to a convenience store on sunday and when I walked in the guy looked shocked, I think he thought I was trying to rob the place untill I said hi, and then he thought I was underage and ID'd me, even though he has sold me smokes before without Id'ing me in the past
I know alot of people are bitching about restricted breathing but tbh if your breathing isn't at least slightly restricted your mask is catching your own spit and that's about it.
I just bought a sports mask along with some pm2.5 filters I'm going to sew in there. N95 - not a fun thing to breathe in on a hot day.
I had been wearing a double layer of the neck gators and I'll probably keep wearing them around my neck at the park and stuff where I don't run into many people and we're out in the the open air but in a store I'm well aware they're doing almost nothing to protect me. They might be doing the slightest bit to protect others from me
Simple test is a smell test. N95 rated mask will basically block out 100% of a smell. Neck gaiter is almost 0%. I'd just suggest you layer up until you find a balance between blocking out smells and being able to breathe.

Smoking, Botched Tests and COVID-induced Blindness
Pretty wild COVID story from my family. There is a household of 6 people across 4 generations. A 7th person frequented the house as she was sharing custody of the youngest member of the household.
The first to contract COVID was a 30-year-old female who was raising the 7-year-old (the girl's father is actively bad on heroin). She developed flu-like symptoms and a weird vision problem. Over two months later, she's still nearly blind and still can't work. She developed White Dot Syndrome as a result of the COVID-19 infection. The second to contract COVID was the 50ish-year-old woman who had the split custody of the 7-year-old. She died in hospital not longer after getting it. The third and fourth were my 69-year-old grandfather and my 21-year-old male cousin. The entire household all took tests which came back negative but then later got a letter saying just those two were actually positive for COVID-19. A recent antibody test confirmed this.
Three major questions I have are: How the fuck did the 7-year-old not get it when both symptomatic cases were in the two people who share custody of her? How did only half of the household get sick at the height of quarantine while stuck in one house? Why was the 21-year-old (whose blood relative literally went blind) asymptomatic alongside a non-blood relative who also seemed to be the most vulnerable in the household?

That is interesting if true about the white dot syndrome and covid. Ive never heard of it happening but I have heard it can infect the cranial nerves and nervous system in general so I suppose it is theoretically possible.

Interesting?!
You sound like a German ambulance driver friend of mine who spoke of "an interesting chainsaw accident"
Most people wont find it "interesting" that COVID may blind them.

If it makes you feel any better that is the very first time i have heard of such a thing happening and it is entirely possible that the two are not connected.

I know how you mean it, it caught me by surprise too, hopefuly unrelated because otherwise it would be more widely reported.
Being in the heat of the action comes with an ability to take a step back in side yourself and explore the ramifications while dealing with the gruesome. Professional distancing, thats how you hack it, what you go through.
It wasnt blame of any nature. It takes strength to do what you do, I admire it.

Thank you. Overall though I have to say the pandemic has actually been more energizing than depressing. People who go into emergency and intensive care medicine get an emotional boost out of saving lives, and right now there is a lot of life saving taking place. There are certainly instances of losing lives in sad ways but overall, the spirit in the hospital is high. Ive never felt as much love and gratitude from patients or mutual respect among coworkers as I do currently. People are determined and functioning at a level i havent seen before and it is frankly very encouraging. As difficult as the workload can be, i think i might find it even more difficult to have to sit on the sidelines, just waiting for it to end. At present I at least feel actively involved in the resolution of the problem

Could this theoretically cause something like this? Never happened before. Never happened again. Happened a couple times over a two week span in very early february with mild cold symptoms and fatigue. People got sick after coming into contact with me. I live relatively close to NYC and was in NYC in February.
Not asking for a definitive answer or diagnosis - had diagnostics and imaging rule out pretty much everything. Thought it was migraine induced, called it a day. Just wondering if I should consider taking an antibody test?

I have to be perfectly honest. I have no idea. If you can find a free antibody test, sure, get one. As unreliable as they are still are, I wouldn't be willing to pay for one.

This forum has come a long way. Look how dumb everyone was 12 years ago.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7718711
You guys, 99.99% of people are not making money on pandemics. Hospitals are hemorrhaging money, medical workers are getting furloughed or taking paycuts, prescriptions for ordinary meds like statins and psych meds are down because people are avoiding the doctor. Small business is dying. The govt is getting even more into debt. Arguably the only industry that benefits is the media and online retailers. Unless you wanna argue that amazon and cnn conspired together to kill a bunch of people for a modest sales boost, these theories make no sense.
