Just heat the scalpel, scoop spores and try to streak? On agar

I’ve read of people dipping the scalpel in clean agar then swiping a bit of spores onto the sticky scalpel blade but that worries me because you could germinate spores that are left on the print and not used because of the leftover agar on the print after you swipe it.
I’d say you’d be fine flaming the scalpel then giving it time to cool and doing what you said if that’s your only option. Could you pressure cook some cotton swabs to use ?

Well you can flame scalpel, cool it, then scrap some spores and streak it. But to make an loop you just need a little bit of wire and a pin or something to attach it to (to hold). There is no way you can't make that. Like you'll find wire anywhere (old cables, pens, ...)

Sorry man I don't have anything to make a loop out of besides guitar strings.

I didn't think of cotton swabs. I'll try those next time. Thanks homie!

I'll look up the process. How do you do it? Wet q tip, pressure cook then swipe?

Yeah I wet the q tip, put itnin a quart jar and pressure cookie for 30 minutes and swipe it over the spores to pick them up and then swipe it on the agar. It always worked for me.

Not a problem. Glad I could help!
budmanman's idea sounds great, especially if you dont want to store the swab afterwards. I just read recently you could cut the tip off a spored swab with a sterile pair of scissors or your scalpel and dab it around in the agar with a pair of sterile tweezers. (Flame the tip of the tweezers)

For my recent run, I used an 18ga needle (sterile out of the package, opened and uncapped in the SAB, one per print, two plates per print)- swiped the side of the point across the print a few times, then gently wiped it across the surface of the agar- no streaking, I'm trying to gently embed the spores in the agar to give them maybe a better chance to germinate (they've been stored at room temp for a bit over 2 years).
