I made a post about some jars that got too hot, jar for example pictured above. I haven’t had a shoebox look so weird before. Some may say rhizo looking growth, but when it’s in a shoebox looking like this idk. Thoughts?

Looks OK to me. Anytime you see ropey mycelium that is a good thing. What you call funky may turn out to be your best grow ever (unless I'm missing something on my screen). If it was my tub/box I would give it more air though -to my eyes it looks hungry for air.

Ya I thought it needed air too so I cracked unlocked one side of each box for a few hours... might leave them off overnight not sure. There’s a lot of water on the sides so they’re def on the wet side.
I’m interested in the shoebox and why it looks like that. Thick strands coming out of the sub, vertically. You saw that?

Hello amigo. I don't do shoeboxes myself so hopefully somebody who does will chime in and teach both of us something. I'm in the middle of something right now - I'll try to get back to you with something more useful in a bit. As much as I like the Shroomery, it doesn't pay my bills; but the guy on the phone does lol...

Another noob here, but thought Id try to help. Your growth looks fine to me. But may be a little wet. Keep it unlatched so it gets some FAE? Those strands you are talking about is mycelium. Its comfortable reaching up like this because of the conditions in the box. Its fine, but let it breath.

No it’s agar, this is like 5th transfer agar and some are g2g. They all looked great until the day or day before I spawned them. Got super hot in the closet.

5th transfer agar is also multispore agar. Most grows are MS, it takes a lot to grow a monoculture.

Ya I have the kids opened a bit, in a closet that’s in a cool room. I’ve had some nice grows but they just never looked like this before. Thick rhizo looking myc alongside whispy myc. I guess things change. I appreciate the responses. This is g2g and agar to grain. I thought they meant did I put a needle in my jar, they were some pretty plates so I’m hoping for the best.

I put two different plates to grains and then to coir. One box is having almost exclusively mycelium strands everywhere poking up like that. I have the box some FAE and it all started to knot up. My second box have a 50% strands and 50% whispy myc.

To claRIFY some points made here. Pleeeze excuse my spelling I'm in a hurry. An isolate from an agar plate is mucho better than a multispore grow. Noone outside of a pro micro lab has the capacity to isolate a single strain -it takes hardware ($) and time ($) outside the reach of most of us. However, if you isolate a sector from a petri plate and transfer a little wedge to a new dish, those several strains that make up a ropey mycelium sector, are all good friends and will behave similarly. There really is no need to isolate a single strain from a multispore inoc. unless you are paid to do research on such matters and we wouldn't be asking such questions on a web site lol.
Heay damage to your inoc: If your jars or especially tub/ shoebox whatevs got cooked a bit, that can ezlee weaken your mycelium. This may be be why you have whispy growth here, and ropey growth over there -theren is no way to be sure. But if what you see is unusual from what you normally see -well that is a new integer put into the equation which will change your result. Sorry I was so rushed - gotta do sopme work stuff online. Good luck

Continuing scarabaeus post: I still think you need some more air exchange, but like I said ^ I don't do shoeboxes so I don't know first hand how theey breath. Somebody who does lots of shoeboxes may be able to help you out from experience in seeing shoeboxes do weird stuff. Gotta run (for real this time )

Rhizo is not always good, it happens naturally but can also be triggered by contamination.
Also isolates are rarely seen but not inherently better than ms. If you actually get down to one strain then all your eggs are in one basket. If you happen to get an above average one you’ll be set but I think the guys that actually work with them say something like 8% are worth keeping.
Ms is multispore, basically just means not a clone.

I just thought he meant did I put a syringe in my jar. I have my kids cracked to get some air, and it’s in a closet I sanitized yesterday. What do you think of the pictures, especially my shoebox? It’s an odd look, I’d be happy to get a flush from it even if I had to cut some of the base of the mushroom off.

Sorry, but I must disagree with you. Out of 100's of grows, all my 'canopy' tubs/trays have ALWAYS been fron petri dish rhizo-sector isolations. It is true that you can get a good or even great grow from multispore, but my killer grows have always been after taking a ropey sector from one dish, growing that out on another plate and using THAT as a jar inoculent.
In a MS grow, the mycelium will typically sort itself out (different strains become a tribe and then out-race the other less vigorous ones), but personally I like to isolate a ropey/rhizomorphic sector and move along with that.
Also, I have found that rhizomorphic mycelium runs through a substrate faster and gives you product in less time than a crapshoot MS sub will. Of course even cottony (as long as it is not wispy) mycelium can produce good yields.
My 2 pennies. You realize that an isolate contains several if not many strains yes? I agree with you that even if one had the means to isolate a SINGLE strain, it really is not worth the trouble. Fungus wants to stay alive, it does this by combining and recombining the genome of the compatible strains it is rubbing shoulders with.

I meant rhizo in the coir/grain spawn, i usually transfer rhizo on plates too just cuz it’s faster.
The lingo here with some stuff is problematic lol, usually people use isolate and monoculture interchangeably but we’re pretty much on the same page.
