SpacedX's ID Request (New Zealand, South Island) - 01
    #26811764 - 07/08/20 09:52 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I am certain that these aren't right but included them for discussion:

I would like feedback on these two:

Hi, just getting back into this after a few decades being boring.  I don't think these are the right.  The common species over here is called gold caps which I think (based on reading this forum) are psilocybe subaeruginosa.

Habitat:
Barked gardens un urban areas.

Gills:
As per photo

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Bruising:
I don't see the blue bruise so I think these aren't magic.

Other information:
Keen on any info that anyone has as I am just getting started.

@Moria841 and @HookerWithAPenis I really appreciate your help.

Here are a couple of other photos after a quick wiz around the neighborhood on my electric scooter.  They all look like normal mushrooms to me but maybe I don't know what I am talking about.

Ant tips other than looking for the blue color when I crush them?

Best thing to do is to go back over the 2020 NZ actives thread and study what they look like and where they grow. The main things being - you are most likely going to find subs, so study what they look like. Brown to goldfish cap with white gills, white hollow stem and you should see bluing around the edge of the cap or on the stem.

These are what I have been finding - I’ve tried to shoot them as good as I can for this purpose:

I have seen some of those growing alongside subs so you’re half way there. Just gotta keep looking and also I will check the same spots which I think could have subs a number of times. The pros will also tell you to get into the flax and under the brush, it’s true.

You mushroom dudes are very helpful chilled out dudes.  The vaporents subreddit is similar.

@Dolanduck I am reading like mad.  I now have a better idea of the stem I am looking for and have remembered that the gold tops have the nipple (although some of the pics are showing flatter more mature ones).

I can't believe how late in the season I am getting into this.  I was busy googling what NZ plants contain DMT (very few) and then I remembered mushies.

I am reading this and last years harvesting thread like mad.

After looking at many many lookalikes I have finally found something with a bit of blue bruise. It's paler than normal but I think still in the range for subs.  The stem is hollow.

In this pic I think the two pale ones on the left might be subs (would like some feeback).  I think the two on the right are lookalikes.

Close up of the two potential subs:

I would like some input on the blue bruise as I am using that as my definitive way to tell if they are subs (I see shrooms with the right shape and color all the time).  If you crush the stem after picking is the blue bruise obvious and instant?  Any tip are appreciated.

The one on the left is a sub (a couple more angles to confirm would be nice but the blue bruising is distinctive). The others are not, or at least the 2 on the right aren't (assuming they're the same species - the stem is wrong on the one I can see), I can't tell anything about the pale one in the middle but it doesn't resemble a Psilocybe.

The bruising is generally not instant but it's very distinctive. You should typically expect to find dark bruising along the perimeter of the cap as well as on the stem (across the whole mushroom, really, but those are the most common areas to find distinctive bruising).

HWAP you are an awesome dude (or dudette).  I thought the one on the left was a sub so now that thats confirmed I will go hunting.  The pale one looks the same but I will post better photos when I get back.  I will throw out the one on the right.  I also thought the stem was wrong.

Is my logic right?  Crush the stem and I should see some blue?  I assume the lookalikes are not deadly if I accidently get one in my pile but would like that confirmed if possible.

Nice waaan BRAVVAAAA!

Yeh one on the left looks good, well done - not easy to find at least in Auckland - ffs I have scoured so much ground it’s not funny - like every day for the last 2 months - only found 2 spots - too dry up here

Keep looking and definitely investigate thoroughly where you found that one, under any brush, bushes, under/inside flax etc.

What was the habitat like where you found it?

I am down in Chch bro.  I posted some better pics on my 02 thread if you want to have a look.  I am trying to keep it one batch per thread otherwise it gets confusing.

Down here it's rained real hard for a couple of days which has to be good.  Frost this morning.  I think I had my psychedelic reawakening at the peak of the season.

The habitat was a barked garden in a kids park.  Lots and lots of lookalikes and those two sitting in the middle.  I went back to the area this morning but will have a better look at the crack of dawn tomorrow when the kids are still in bed bless their little souls.
