Dry vs wet weight of mushrooms

I have been logging output of my BRF cakes, noting down time between flushes aswell as dry and wet weight. The process is still ongoing and i have got a bit sloppy as I have lost track of what cake is what and I gave up on dates too but there's some interesting data to see still.
It seems that first flush has most meatiest mushrooms with the average dry content being ~8% of the wet, and successive flushes are more water than solids, with ~6% on 2nd and ~4% on 3rd flush with average for entire flushes being closer to 7%.
The strongest flush spends the cake faster also, making later flushes even weaker, which makes sense since there's limited nutrients in a particular cake and they don't get replenished.
I don't know if later flushes have less active substances in them, perhaps it is so.
All the cakes are multispore grows of Golden Teacher variety, from spores collected by myself from a while back.
Brown rice vs barley doesn't seem to produce much difference. I will try a breakfast mix in future, since there are many different grains in already suitable form and perhaps it simply produces better mushrooms, also it is cheaper and more convenient for me since brown rice flour isn't available here and grinding it myself is an inconvenience lol.
I hope this is useful information ~

Interesting, thanks for sharing results. Did you mist the same amount and frequency through the entire grow? I could see that affecting moisture content of the fruitbodies.

I have tried to keep misting similarly throughout the grow (few times a day at most), but I have got lazy by now especially knowing that all the good stuff is already harvested.
When the last flushes are harvested I'll do an update with entire table filled but I expect no surprises there.

Cool! Have you looked at variability between individual mushrooms as well?

That would require even more things to keep track of physically, I'm not up for the task with the equipment and setting I have available lol.
I do expect similar sort of variability as seen on the whole harvests of a flushes but if that is the case is yet to be seen.

Did you keep them as cakes the entire time? No casing or anything? On the topic I usually just expect on average 10% of wet weight but I haven't done raw cakes in years so would be interesting to know the difference.

The one or two older studies I’ve seen didn’t find much change in actives flush to flush but did say they seem to peak in the third flush.
I’m right with you on water weight, I just assume I’ll get 8g dry for every 100g wet. Occasionally it’s much higher or lower but probably averages out.
4% is wild though lol. I’ve had a couple hit 5% but its rare.

4% is definitely crazy. I’ve been back to normal (7-8%) on this last set of SB but when it was colder I got a solid 10% on a bunch of them. It’s always nice when they’re solid. I’ve never broken 10% that I can remember but I’ve never grown any of the PE varieties which I hear are dense. Do they tend to dry heavier? My TX PE6 are more like TX lol. I’ve got some APE on grains right now finally

I have kept them as cakes with verm layer on them, or at least in the beginning. I haven't cared to re-verm them between flushes when they go into a water bath and stay in fridge for a day. I had heard the 10% number everywhere myself but it seems it isn't a number I reach, not with BRF cakes. Maybe one day I'll try some bulk method and keep a similar log but for now I have a whole jar of mushies to trip off which is gonna last me a long while haha.
I didn't expect that 4% myself, it was interesting to see that come out the data. They also grow much slower and there's much less mushrooms also, definitely suggesting the cake is running out of power.
I have no experience with any of the other varieties. Part of me would like to experiment with them but access to them isn't something I have right now or can even afford to.
3rd flush mushrooms seem not to be any weaker than first flush ones, I had a very powerful trip with 5.56g yesterday, even without a MAOI
