Growing in Large Outdoor Flowerpot
    #26811447 - 07/08/20 05:59 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I had a 1lb bag of rye that decided to contaminate instead of fruiting so rather than admit defeat I used it as spawn for a 30lb bag of manure/compost plus vermiculite. Well I now have a pretty solid cake that has mycelium running all through it and I believe it is consolidating prior to throwing out some fruits. Local weather seems to be doing fine for cubes as I’ve been collecting all sorts of tiny guys off of spent grains I literally crumbled on top of the surface of another pot (like half inch mini-shrooms growing out of little clumps of WBS hahaha).

Im thinking that right now my best bet is to throw a little casing layer over the top to ensure good humidity at the substrate level and try to be patient but I’d love feedback from anyone with experience on similar projects as to what they would have done differently or what I should expect. To be honest I’m just tired of waiting for pins

For specific environmental details:
I can’t recall the strain I used originally but some sort of cubensis. Temps have been ~80-90F/26-32C with humidity in the 60-70% range. The pot is in indirect sun and I have been giving a a nice mist until visibly wet with the hose on days we haven’t had rain. I’ve got holes drilled at the bottom and along the side to allow drainage and some gas exchange for bits well underneath the surface.

Sounds like a solid setup! Mist whenever it looks kinda dry during fruiting. Hay might be a good casing. Smaller flowerpots are easy to deal with and have quicker results
