Straw and Verm "Tek"

Hi Shroomery,
I dont post a lot on here, but I will share progress of a new thing Im doing purely because i ran out of one thing and couldnt wait as i had colonised jars waiting.
So my coir all seems to have Trich in it. Which is nice. I have 2 jars of PES fully colonised when i realised this.
I do have some straw. So I've pasteurised the straw and vermiculite using standard bucket process and over saturated leaving for 12 hours in the bucket.
I emptied excess water and squeezed excess to equivalent filled capacity.
Anyone have any advice ? I'm using small tubs and have got them sealed at 77f whilst they colonise. I thinking slightly warmer tep for PES.
Is there any hope in this off piste manouvre?

Do you mean the dry blocks or are you talking about finished shoeboxes/tubs/trays that are contaming. In the first case, how do you prepare them, pasteurizing them (If you dont do that currently, or only bucket tek or so) might help. Also, not sure if just straight up boiling would hurt coir since I dont even think there are that many beneficial organisms in it that might get killed off.
I dont have much experience using straw for cubes, heard of it more commonly esp with oyster types but I think some people also do it for cubes, might have to wait for an expert to chime in or just do a quick search. In that case I'd think this has good chances of success And considering they are grass mushrooms this seems reasonable too.

Did you just soak the straw? I would only use pasteurized straw on oysters and that is also by heat pasteurization and the addition of agriculture lime. You will not succeed if you spawn your jars to what you have. If I were to use straw with cubes, it would be in a manure mix heat pasteurized, or supplemented staw that has been sterilized.

You can’t bucket tek straw. Bucket tek isn’t proper pasteurizing unless you did one of the insulated bucket teks. Straw is crazy finicky and when spawned with cubes is only good for a one flush wonder IMO.
I liked to do this for straw

oooh thats interesting! Im not great with technology so i cant post pictures easily but so far the mycelium is loving the straw. colonised a great deal of the tub in 3 days. I did insulate the bucket and I used a fair amount of boiling water so the temps would have been up over the 145 degree mark for a

Yeah its in the actual blocks, apparently it gets put in there in some brands on purpose...it just seems that One spore is all it takes and why take the risk.

I’d just sterilize the coir.

Yeah, no beneficial microbes in coir that would have to be preserved. Dont think so.
