Nice to sees some finds still trickling in psilocybiNZL & StartingOver... I'm hoping the season still has a little more to give... the patch where road workers told me to "look somewhere else" was miraculously untouched! so I got a handful of very small ones: no pics tho.

Juxter2020 said: Hello, I am a professional Allenii hunter/cultivator from San Francisco and I can tell you 99% those are not allenii. (That’s what I thought before I saw the holes in the stems). 1. The edges of those caps are slightly upturned, allenii generally bow downward. 2. Allenii never ever ever have the olive color. There are multiple strains of allenii ranging from yellow, caramel like subaeruginosa and even whitish. 3. Allenii stems are hollow unlike most other psilocybe. You can take an Allenii and Cyanescens of same size and allenii will have a straight hole through it and cyan will be a stick. (Oh shit I just looked and your mushrooms have holes in them, my whole theory is shot). I even smuggled allenii mycelium into New Zealand Incase I never go back, and I have built a small patch in golden bay. Hoping for some fruits in 2021. I do wonder if the allenii travelled here by natural spore transport or if somebody had the exact same idea as me years ago and that’s how people find them? If I ever go back to the states it would be cool to plant some subs, secos and or weraroas in some city garden beds and see if they ever pop up on shroomery haha
Well damn... If not P allenii; then it's back to the old drawing board... perhaps olive is a bad way to describe them- but the colour of brown is effeminately different than the usual subs.. I have also found a couple of mature examples that were almost white. (as pictured above, & here)

They are probably just weirdo subs... here is a pic from 2018 that illustrates the colour difference in dried fruits:

By the way; I have seen many subs with toothpick sized hole up through the stem.

Thanks Roger, I also think they are subs; adapted to specific conditions in their habitat--> but they were just different enough to make me consider: perhaps they are another Psilocybe? It is very interesting, the variation in shapes, sizes & colours of fruit.
@starting over = a nice handful there

I can’t quote that comment at that size, anyway the holes through subs does not surprise me because as far as I know allenii are closer related genetically with subs than with cyanescens, even though they occur across the pacific from each other. I just miss the size of the allenii. Had one about 5 inches across last November. It was literally bigger than ANY cubensis I have ever eaten. Hell, I haven’t even heard of anybody eating or growing cubensis in NZ...I guess it would be a lot harder to get the spores if you can’t just mail order them legally.

Side by side comparison clockwise allenii, subaeruginosa, subsecotioides, cyanescens, azurescens...
Those are subaeruginosa and subsecotioides that were cultivated in the USA...
Viridis420 is crazy with it...
HOLY Shit I didn’t realize azure were that big? I was planning to go to the oregon/Washington coast but the train tickets were sold out so I bought a plane ticket to NZed!!!! Hahahaha (turned out good in terms of covid-19 but not as good for shrooms) Anyway that guy is doing what I want to be in like 5 years. Cheers srsly. Ps, the allenii with a nipple is atypical, I actually found a lot more cyanescens with pronounced nipples like a sub.

Ask RTR to post a pick of his library. . . He could prolly lay out the 5 woodlovers like his snap but of spore prints. . . As for cubes. . .

Found a new subs spot - only problem is super super public and the shrooms are clearly on display - massively fertile garden beds - third time I’ve checked on it because of the fertility / other flora. So yeh - I’m sure competition there is fierce.

Another massive haul pic for you rog
