Experienced growers please review my setup and help :)
    #26809704 - 07/07/20 07:02 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi everyone...hope life is treating you well. I'm restarting my favourite hobbie but am having trouble with fruiting. The culture is a clone I took for a beastie fruit...grown on agar and transferred to LC...LC is 6 months old. Cultured on rye grain and bulked to coir/peat/been + lime and a little Stevia leaf.

I am using trays for easy cleaning which meant my run is upside down...see pics. I have cased one tray with coir and lime...to check difference.

This is in dedicated grow room with small air purifier run on slow and two led 20 watt strip lights on 12/12 timer.

Spawn run was 10 days and been in fruiting for 4... However there are no pins or knots...what. I doing wrong???

Internal temp

Humidity level

Co2 content

Box pics.

Using microspore tape...including at top...to simulate imperfect lid...

I mist and fan 2 times a day.

Please help...never had so many problems in getting fruits...

Strain is B+ and sub has peat...not 'bean'.

4 days isn’t long in fruiting. Give it a couple more days and maintain good surface moisture usually takes 7-10 days. Also just let it do it’s thing. You can’t make it fruit, only give it the right habitat to do so.

Yeah it’s too soon to get paranoid. The uncased sub looks a little bacterial but nothing too bad. My best guess based on how it looks is you will see knots in three days, pins in five.

Is that a bubble aka blob over to the right on the uncased tray?

looks like it might be verticillium dry bubble :frown:

Well why wouldn't you think the most common infection in commercial mushroom farming is not fairly common in home farming. Could be wrong but the bubble is there (i think, hard to see) I think we've all been mislead by people on here over the years that it is always bacterial. Bacterial plates this, no grease...Bacteria grows faster on agar than on mycelium, because it has a specific nutrient/sugar amount that is highly favorable for fungus and bacteria to grow on which is why agar recipes exist? So if the mycelium is bacterial it should grow along on the plates also in visible colonies (the whole point of agar).

Really appreciate your input...it's been awhile...so finding my feet again. Here's a couple of better pics...do you think there is contamination?

It’s the most common contam in the entire commercial industry? Maybe the agaricus industry (I still wouldn’t just buy that outright either) but not the entire commercial mushroom industry? Not even close.

Like I said it’s maybe a touch bacterial. But what do I know? Maybe it really is Lecanicillium fungicola Verticillium “dry bubble” as sandman seems to think.

I said it might be, based on the sight of a bubble. Just taking a shot at what I think with the information provided.

Also friend, I've noticed you have been unnecessarily condescending and somewhat rude to me, and I feel this is totally unwarranted. We can have a discussion without trying to belittle people. Or at least I can.

Sorry if I’ve come across as rude and condescending. However I’ve seen you posting a fair bit of questionable advice over the last while. Not trying to step on your toes but I have a hard time with what I see as inaccurate information. I’ve done a lot of research into Lecanicillium fungicola, enough so that I actually find it annoying when people use the older and less accurate binomial. There isn’t a single thing in that tub that makes me think white mold of any species. Given how serious of a contam that it is I’d appreciate people not crying “verticillium” every other post when there is no reason to think that. If some noob took your diagnosis seriously and pitched a healthy or slightly bacterial tub, I’d feel really bad for them.

Certainly no one wants to see someone pitch a good tub. I was merely speculating based on the sight of a bubble I don't think there is anything questionable about that and I didn't say to throw it away. It was a prompt for further discussion, better photos, more information. I don't think that is a stretch that warrants you to attempt to frame me as someone that doesn't know what they are talking about. That is great that you have read a lot about l. fungicola maybe you can put that knowledge to use more often and stop lambasting me. The spotting of a bubble along with thick leathery growth is reasonable to at least theorize dry bubble as a possibility. And to say it's just flat out not means you just don't know that much about dry bubble disease, l. fungicola, vert whatever you want to call it.

Where is the bubble with “leathery” growth? Cause I don’t see one. I see a colony that looks like it’s reacting a bit to bacteria. Not one hint of a “dry bubble.” If I truly suspected dry bubble rather than throw out a theory with no substance I would try and diagnose it further. Ask him about the temps (white molds do not do well in lower temp), ensure his FAE is sufficient (cause white molds are practically halted by lots of fresh air) maybe ask him how the tub smells (Lecanicillium has a very distinctive smell). I wouldn’t just tell someone it looks like they have mold and leave it at that.

I’m sorry if you feel like I’m picking on you. I’m not, rather I’m looking out for those who are new and don’t know who to trust. That’s my function here.

Hello friend. It is quite an expensive bit of kit. I bought second hand for 200 of my local currency. New it could cost you up $600. Have a look at second hand equipment from tradesman...I believe it is used by gas/heating engineers.
