Mazatapec Grow! My 1st try on Shroomery 1

So here goes folks, I've been so hungry for joining the family over here @Shroomery and now have got it going. Finally getting somewhere. Gonna try and keep this first part ot the post short as possible with talk but hoping you'll chime in with advice tips and help if needed as we follow this grow together
Maz spores went to agar almost 3 months back, 9 selections were taken and all cleaned up on MEA + grain water agar over 6 transfers each to make sure I had a good chance of getting something clean and worth carrying on with.
Final transfers were made to 1q grain spawn jars then those transfers were put to 7L shoe-boxes of just plain coir using various snippets of teks from bodh, mushboy,ShaperDreaming and others (skimped out on grain quantity to coir to begin with but all went well). Have kept myc dishes in fridge for future grows if any end up good.
Shrooms popped up in all boxes and best looking clones were taken from 6 where they were cleaned and expanded again on agar and are finally now ready for the next part of the chapter, hope your following
Update of where I'm @ now to follow with pic's....wish me luck

So here's a few of the 2l takeaway style boxes I'm using that have been going for a week now an the rest of the clones grain spawn jars that are waiting to fully colonize over the next week.
As you can see the boxes are almost there, cracked the lids off for the first time so I could take a few pics.
Pics aren't great but I'm sure they will get better as I learn to adapt

So here's some pics of the 1st chosen spore sample I cleaned up, it's been going 3 weeks now and for the first flush looks okay, but nothing like what I thought it would look like... seems like the shrooms and caps are small and some are splitting early on, on the edges? anyone think they look alright? this batch seems to be forming in clusters which I like.

My recent Mazatapec grow produced relatively small fruits and others said results were similar to their experience with the variety. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Nice work!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad maz pinset. But, always small mushrooms so far.
Lol I was so sad my very first grow when the caps opened and they were like three inches tall cuz I had gotten the spores specifically cuz they said maz got huge. Didn’t realize how much variety there is in ms at the time though.

Buddy of mine told me the same thing, and when I first saw how aggressively the mycelium grew, I was inclined to believe him. Turned out to not be the case, for me at least.

So the other boxes of clone myc are now fully colonised & jars are creeping ever closer to being tubed up too. So gonna crack lids a little an get that FAE going.
Will post update on weight from 7l box later this evening, not expecting much as shrooms were small but plentifull. Can't complain. Then I'll test on the weekend and see if the dish is a keeper or not

It seems like Mazatepecas have the most size variation of all the strains. Ivr grown the smallest and the largest cubes with Mazatepeca. Its preplexing to say the least. Someone should stabilize the large cubes so they are the dominant strain....

I've never grown anything other than Maz so far, So looking forwards to eventually trying something new in upcoming months after hopefully finding a few goodies to keep from these grows.
Gonna read through your threads later today A.k.a. Like the pics in your sig. inspiration is what drives us on aye!

There’s a theory that as varieties get domesticated they get smaller for some reason. I know one of the guys has huge maz from older spores. From what I’ve seen he’s got a clone that puts off only monster mushrooms. Pretty cool and they look way different when they’re a foot tall.
If you want prints pm me rot I have a ton of cube types I can prob hook up like 10 right now at least.

So the first flush came in @ 19g dry so wasn't to bad tbh, I know that's probably under what it could have been for a 7L shoebox but I'm not complaining
So the 7L box is on it's second flush, not as much this time by the looks of it but it's almost complete now, corner flushes this time and some edge filling..

The 3, 2L Maz clone takeaway containers are fully colonized now and doing their thing, been 12-13 days since spawning to coir, think they are gonna show signs of knotting soon
Next up the 5 other jars of Maz clone spawn are ready to box up!
So mixed up 250g of straight prepped coir and split it between the 5 2L shoe-boxes.. and ready they are to go
Update soon

Looks like there’s already a pin in the middle of the third picture, could be yellow tinted rhizo though.
The surface looks good I always used to let it get a little too dry and all the rhizo would start matting up.

The only way that domesticated cubes would get consistently smaller is if they were bred that way. But given most varieties have about as much thought put into the selection as I put into flushing the toilet, I would doubt that to be the case. More often than not it’s more likely that people don’t know how to give the culture what it needs to achieve its best.

A.k.a, think you might be right, as for the matting up, same here use to let it go either a little to dry or to wet an it would matt but so far so good.
From yours or anyone else's experience with surface matting, do you think it makes much difference to the production of pin onset and eve-ness of the pinset if that makes any sense?

When the surface gets matted and takes on that yellow tinge it’s literally the pinning surface dying. Once it dies it’s either trich food or useless. It makes a huge difference in the pinset and final yield.

@Pastywhyte, that's why I'm loving this, so much to learn, reading through the threads taking it all in and the grows I've done, I have noticed that the fruits for me definitely get bigger as the flushes go on. But then I've only stuck with a couple of Maz spore prints so far
I look forward to learning tweaking and adapting my subs an grows in future... all in good time
Love your RustyWhyte thread ma man

That's interesting... What's the reason for this happening? Not enough FAE/moisture? Or is the sub just exhausted?

Congratulations from me, too. I think your grows look great!
