Does anyone have anything AGAINST the fooman tek? (Quick way to prep grains without a soak.)

I might’ve potentially fucked up like 20 quarts of grain, I’m fucking pissed. Honestly had life BS going on, and I’m back and ready. I need to get a lot of grains prepped, but sick of waiting for them to soak. This is the only step I’m not confident in pretty much. I have trouble drying them correctly, and they come out too wet or dry, maby I’m wrong.
I want to use the fooman tek tonight, does anyone say a soak IS NECESSARY, or is that a myth or what do you think? I don’t want to waste anymore time/WBS.

I just add 350ml millet, 150ml h²0 in a qt and pressure cook for 65 min. Done. I've been doing this with millet, rye, and oats. Havent tried wbs yet. Each grain needs it's own milliliter h20 adjustment. I also use gypsum in the jars. Helps I think. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26632156/page/1
I have great success with this. No contams. Haven't lost a jar. Tubs dont go green (my tubs are lucky to see 2nd flush, I toss them due to space not mold)

I liked it. But I spilled millet all over my kitchen. No-prep is easier but you can def screw up moisture content. I dunno, a lotta people like fooman's tek. Give it a shot and see what you think

It just sucks cuz some days after work I’m not feeling up to doing shit, so when I’m up for it I hate having to soak the seed. Especially when you’re doing bulk jars, that’s a lot of time/grain to waste and jars to be washed. You said you liked it, meaning you only tried it but now soak your seed?

I’ve read about this before, that seems so simple. They come out perfect? That would be awesome, how many times have you used this “tek” with these measurements?

Tbh fooman's is pretty fuckin easy. Boil a pot of water, throw in the seeds, take it off the heat, wait 20 minutes. I know it can be hard to get motivated after work but, yeah

That’s simple. Last question, I feel like I’m overkill on rinsing my WBS. I have a big bucket with holes in the bottom, fill it up, stir it a bunch, let the water run out. I do it over and over and over, until it looks pretty good against my white bathtub. The water I mean. Do you rinse the shit out of yours?

I use it all the time. It's the only way I do it now. Maybe let soak overnight in jars but not all the time. I have excellent results. I've journal everything down and write results. I learn what needs more water or less grain. I tweek it till it's right then keep that recipe. I have recipes for Oats, millet, and rye. Any of those 3 I can load up with water (I also use calciums) and pressure cook without a soak.

Isn’t millet WBS? The brand I get after I strain out the sunflower seeds is like straight millet, or so I thought that’s what it was. The recipe you provided above, is for millet as well or what would you recommend Dr?

I haven't washed any spawn jars in like 2 years...you don't really have to wash them after spawning their contents, I just put the lid back on loose and stack them in there original box until I need them and just fill and PC again.

I just did some rye jars. I let them soak overnight.
240ml rye 215-225ml h20 1/4 tsp calcium carbonate 1/8 tsp calcium sulfate 1 tsp millet.
If you dont use calciums 240ml rye 185-200ml h20
I add tsp of millet to add more inoculation points and I think it helps with moisture.

I have a few different formulas for the other grains. PM anyone if they want them. They work perfect for me. I've been getting consistent results.

Foomans is great for wbs. Dump boiling water over pot of wbs, let sit 30-60 min and strain then load when slightly wet. Really easy prep but only for wbs or millet.
Doesn't work very well for wheat, rye, or oats. Those really benefit from a hard boil in my opinion

What do you mean a hard boil (fully submerged in water boiling.. for how long?)

I dont find the soak necessary. I just boil my grains until they're fully hydrated.
Then i drain them and lay them out to dry. Once dried they get loaded into bags and some jars then sterilized. ezpz

My last load of WBS was slightly wet bc my others looked dry recently. That’s literally the one step I’m not confident in, is how wet/dry my WBS should be before the PC. I’m more confident in agar and stuff. I’ve read opinions, and just worry mine are too dry or too wet. Idk

Always better to slightly under hydrate than over. I aim for 80% max hydration. The two benefits are 1) very few burst grains and 2) if your grains are still wet on the outside when they go in the PC, that extra moisture will get pulled right into the grain and they will still look perfect.

I am married to the Fooman method of wbs. After an hour soak, I like to rinse a strainer at a time, do the pasta bounce til down to a drip or so, then load and PC for 120. Always perfect, and I don't shake for a couple days until after I drop wedges.
