Traveling to CO through NE
    #26809280 - 07/07/20 02:59 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Planning a trip out to CO and would like to bring flower back, at least 1oz, maybe 2. Would need to travel through NE. Should I take back roads across the border, what highway is best? Anything to look out for?

Also, if there are passengers in the car and the vehicle is pulled over, and say 4 oz was found, would all be charged for the total amount? Just the driver? Or would each be charged for 1oz? Not sure how that would play out. I don't really want to find out, but it's cheaper to carpool. Safer to drive separate ...

They'll definitely be looking for you on the major highways.  Perhaps on back roads too, kind of depends on what state your plates are from.

It is possible that they all can be charged with the total amount.  Helps if they don't know it's there, don't have any themselves or any drug paraphernalia and if the driver takes responsibility for it and says the passengers didn't know.

Make sure your car is in good shape, all lights work, don't speed more than 4 over the limit (use cruise control), complete stop at all stop signs.  You can check your brake/tail lights at a shopping mall at night by looking in the reflection of a large window.

There's nothing you can do to make it completely safe.

Mailing it is another option, perhaps if it was split into half ounce packages nothing would happen even if they did find it.  If you mail, use USPS, never any other carriers.  Use a real return address in CO that isn't yours.

Do they regularly patrol highway 71 on the lookout for travel outside of CO? I heard it's the least traveled highway in the state.

As someone from CO, I hardly see cops patrolling in cities/populous areas.

I'm just guessing, but I assume they spend more time at the borders, places leading out of the state then they do in the major cities.

Really isn't any presence of cops on I-25, 225, or I-70/470.

Driving from Philly to CO, don't think we noticed any cops.

Be safe, be smart, and maybe consider a food saver to vac seal and double bag to lessen smell.

I've never been through NE, but I've been all over the states west of colorado and into colorado, and most of those highways are very rarely patrolled. NE might be different though.

4oz is a very risky amount to be caught with in NE though, I wouldn't be surprised if you faced charges of dealing or trafficking if you did get caught. Even though the risk may be low, I would suggest avoiding it and getting weed some other way.

Thanks for the tips. The plan is just two of us and we'd both like at least 1oz, prefer 2. I have 5 plants at home, first time grow, but it will probably be months before we have bud again. 2oz in Nebraska is a misemeanor charge, and I think jailable. $500 fine. To me that is not much worse than getting caught with just an oz. Idk, still kinda planning it out. My friend wants to smoke while we are there, but leave sober... I think it's a terrible idea.

Most places won't let you smoke inside, can't smoke outside either.

Colorado is weird no places to openly smoke, one club to pay to be allowed to smoke on premises (probably closed now).

I have been harassed by cops for smoking on my own property.

Definitely places to stay that are 420 friendly, probably best to carefully package and not dip in till your safely home.

Ive done this many times from CA to PA or CO to MD.

Honestly, drive the speed limit... take backroads. Avoid all those blue highways...

but tbh, they wont give a shit about an oz... you'll get a citation and sent on your way.

Ive been pulled over so many times with an oz, most of the itme they give you a speeding ticket take your weed and tell you dont ask questions too.

you'll be fine

FYI yall we got back safe with about 4oz. We just double and triple bagged everything. Of course because it was like 95F out, the smell eventually permeated to where you could smell it near the trunk, but we got through the worst part smell free. We stored it underneath the interior.

Took 76 going east. We only saw 2 cops on the entire trip, both were on the way back. One was about 20 miles past the border, he pulled over to assist some people in a pickup whose luggage had fallen all over the road. Another cop going insanely fast looked like he was responding to an emergency call.

I-71 is a major drug corridor, so it's likely patrolled A LOT. Even driving perfectly is now grounds to pull someone over, so it's luck of the draw. A rental car may be an option.

I don't have a lot of room to comment since I've never been around weed before. I think double or triple mason jars (washed each time) would prevent any smells. I use mason jars when mixing capsaicin spray - a rabbit and bug repellant -, and I don't smell it, but my nose is also fried from chemicals.

Was driving from Denver to St. Louis through Kansas at night and had a friendly police escort along the highway. He never put his lights on, just started following me (CO plates) - I took the next exit but it was just a junction for another highway, and he followed. I took the next exit off that one, making it look like I was headed to my destination, and it shook him. Managed to get back on the highway with an extremely elevated heartbeat and made it all the way without further incident.
