Verticillum :( Any way to save the cakes?
    #26808867 - 07/07/20 11:30 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I'm more or less certain that my shrooms are infected with verticillium. They were getting misted way too much and not enough FAE, which I fixed, but the fruits are still infected. Is there any way to save the cakes or fruits? And are they still edible? I'd be crushed if I got this far into my first grow and had it fail so late into the game, please help!

You can not do anything if it is Verticillium Dry Bubble (Lecanicillium fungicola) at this point.

Do those feel meaty or hollow where it is bulging? I'm not totally sure that is vert but it has some signs for sure. The leathery stuff off the stipes reminds me of some other infection I can't remember.

I harvested the big malformed fruit to check it out and yeah it was hollow :/ Not all of the cakes were showing signs of infection so I ended up removing all of the fruits and pins to salvage what I could. I'm going to leave the cakes to try and flush again in case I caught it early enough to save some of them, but I don't expect much. Today is definitely a sad day.  :crying:

I think there is a good chance it is vert dry bubble if those bulges where hollow. Watch out for goey cap centers on top that is the sporulation phase and you will infect your grow space and have a really bad time in the future. Was there any blobbing at all or small malformed bubbles? I'm not sure if it's a necesarry sign or not I understand it presents itself based on environment and when it was infected and how infected it is.

As far as I know none of them got to the bubbling point, but I wasn't really looking for that before I got rid of them. The most noticeable things to me were peeling stalks and some of them had brown stripes that split apart pretty easy. Only 1 or 2 showed any signs of rot, so I think I got rid of it pretty early. I sprayed the chamber with H202 before washing with hot water and soap then giving it a cool rinse, which I'm hoping will be enough. Worse case scenario I still managed to get ~65 g wet, I have a cake that I still haven't birthed yet, and I'm moving out of the apartment at the end of the month so I'll manage either way. Thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate it! :sunny:
