If you want some prints I know there are more than a few of us that just send stuff out... I've got regular cube prints coming out my ears... I'm looking for more novelty type stuff now... the big ass PE's or some melmac if I can find it... also looking for Yeti's after I saw D3monic's grow... lol

Hey I checked there website and they are for sure hdpe however they claim they are autoclavable including the cap. Once I'm ready to pour them I might chuck one in an old pint jar and see if it melts. I hope it works. I have no use for all these at once and would love to use them for master slants so them being autoclavable is pretty paramount for them being useful for me.

Right on.
I’m surprised the sample is 25 tubes, I was expecting like 3 or 5.
I had them throw a catalogue in too, so much cool stuff.

I was surprised too, I was expecting a bubble mailer but found a big box on my porch.

I didn't think you could PC HDPE but it actually says you specifically are able to
Quote:
High Density, HDPE, is produced by packing molecules more closely together. HDPE has greater stiffness, rigidity, heat resistance, and increased resistance to permeability than LDPE. HDPEs are classified as either homopolymers which are stiffer, and copolymers which are more stress-crack resistant. HDPE is used for structural applications as it is almost four times better in tensile strength, and three times better in compressive strength than LDPE. HDPE has a working temperature of 212 degrees F - 220 degrees F under low load conditions and it may be autoclaved at sterilizable temperatures.

15psi is 250f
If hdpe working range is 212-220f it likely wont hold up in the pc

Working temp is not maximum temp. That's what you would want to be doing work with the item where it remains rigid I think. Plastic gets soft before it starts to deform or melt.

Word. Again, its working temp is in the 212-220 range, so 30f (250) higher will probably be too much for it. You may get 1 good run with them but it's likely to deform.
For the record hdpe max operating temp is 248f.

This site says you can do 120c/248f for short periods of time https://www.labdepotinc.com/articles/laboratory-plastics.html
edit ah you wrote that same thing before I did

The very next line after it says that is: "Autoclaving is not recommended."
Short periods of time is a subjective statement. Is 15 minutes short? Not in my opinion

I've been really happy with my PP 50cc Centrifuge tubes for slants if those dont work. Really cheap.

One site says you can autoclave, one says you can't. Hell one site even says 80c is the max temp which sounds more right IME. You are probably right that they will just make it once and then start to get funky. I know HDPE buckets do get a little deformed and warped after boiling water gets dumped in. That's why I was surprised to see them say that you could autoclave it at first.

Found a single print! I'm absolutely elated! Now to get some agar PCed and plates poured-- maybe tonight if I feel up to it, since I also have boiled oats to jar and PC as well.
Edit: it must be my lucky day! I just found a substantial stash of spore prints, hidden by my past self between the pages of the instruction manual for my PC!!

Ok, so what are the benefits of more sub and water. If the grains provide all the nutes, what does verm holding extra water do? Help keep the rh up, reduce misting requirements later? I've always used bod's easy af teks but now I wanna see if there's other stuff I can do to up my game.

The more water there is in the sub the more mushrooms can grow, so you won’t need to dunk it as soon.
That’s what I was told at least.

Mushrooms need water to grow, like aka explained. The primary purpose of a bulk substrate is to provide water. Honestly, I don't know how much of a difference it makes. As I said before, I only use it when I don't have enough coir.

Ok so really if you wanted you could just increase the amount of coir used. There's no specific reason to add verm then. That's good to know.

Since you are an agar experienced folk you should order prints instead of syringes. Syringes just complicate inoculation on agar, much prefer a print to inoc a plate personally.
Why do you say the LC is toast? Is it because its stored at room temp?

Noob question here. How do you know when to toss away a tray?
I've got this one that had a mass abort a week ago, it looked like the last image 4 days ago, not sure if it's massive bruising or something more sinister.

It looks ok to me, still making pins.
Usually I wait til they get mold to throw them away. Or if I’ve gotten a lot out of it and it stops producing.
