Mushrooms keep going soft?
    #26807286 - 07/06/20 03:11 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I have been saving up all my grows over the years, had a lot of help from people here on this site with learning how to grow. I moved from a very low humidity area to a very high humidity area and I can no longer keep my mushrooms cracker dry. No matter how many times I dry them they are always getting soft. They don't feel wet or anything just dry and flexible. I currently got some PE growing and I'm thinking it's time to harvest 1 of the tubs. My only problem is I do not have any jars to store them in and I am worried about them going soft in the baggie. Should I wait until tomorrow to pick them or would they be fine in a baggie until tomorrow? I can probably get some jars tomorrow. But No matter how much I dry my shrooms they always seem to go soft it's frustrating. Thank you

Avoid using bags as their not always airtight and the shrooms can poke holes through em.
A jar with some desiccant works perfectly, but any airtight container will work.

If you're going to use bags you need to vacuum seal, otherwise stick with jars. Either way I recommend including a couple of desiccant packets.

You'll run out of space using jars petty quickly. You can always crush the mushrooms and add them to the jar, you'll be able to fit 10x more and they're still just as good.

When you live in a dry environment you can fan dry your mushrooms no problem without a dehydrator. Is this how you are drying your mushrooms? If so it is not possible to dry them out all the way with a fan in a more humid environment. You must use a heated dehydrator.

Or just finish with desiccant packets. I did that before I got a dehydrator when it was 100% humidity

No way i'd finish with desiccant man this isnt 2003! You get best quality fruits by drying quickly. Just stick a space heater next to your fan if thats all you gots.

I do it all the time, it works like a charm, you just jar it with a few desiccant packets and they finish the job. I fanned dry with no heat for a long time. In a humid environment.

Oh it definitely works dont get me wrong. They just get a bit more stanky and darker colored than heated dehydration. And just kinda unnecessary with other easier better ways. Try sticking a space heater right behind your fan on high next time you are doing your air dry and try it out. You should be able to totally skip the desiccant. DANGER Don't use a heater that glows orange for this, only use the cheapo little fan forced heaters is what I am talking about. Like this
