Ok so seems that 1 jar is definitely competing with something else for the substrate. The intruder is very white in comparison to the semilanceata mycelium with slight yellowing. But so far the other 5 are still looking as normal.
A question to anyone that may have tried, is it possible to plant a cake or 2 in a bulk substrate for it to colonize without grating up the cake? Just curious...

Noted. Just trying to think what could be the best option for the next stage. As is I'm highly considering casing in the jars with the substrate I'm growing, but PC it before using since it seems to have a grass land mushroom mycelium in it.
Or with the above in mind perhaps a box big enough for 4 or 5 cakes but with only a couple inches around/between each.
Seeing that it is such a fine mycelium definitely thinking against grating the cakes.

Pic update. The 3 on the right appear fully colonised. One on the left is almost there, one is still to fill in on the bottom and the 3rd as you can see something else entirely is going on in there. Slight greening in a couple BUT I believe that to be processing the chlorophyll from the grass in the bunny poop since it was very grass green to start with but faded. And appeared in same formation in each it is in. It didn't behave like contamination and the mycelium continued unbothered. Unlike the 1 that is contaminated.that white just took over the jar and infiltrated the fine semilanceata myc that had already grown.

Since the grass takes about 40 days to die, I knocked up the cakes when the grass germinated. Once the grass dies I am going to mulch the whole box....
...These like a well matured soil and feed on decaying grass roots in meadows and fields by nature so I wanted to try and recreate the type of food they would get. And in nature they tend to start fruiting when the grass starts to die off and it starts getting colder. So that's why I add the germinated grass seed. To try to get the spawn and seeds to grow at the same time and hopefully as the grass is dying they may be fruiting.
I know it might sound like alot of effort but I want to see if it works. If it does then YAY!

Alright. So an update of sorts. This is technically are going well. I caused 5 of the jars and used grass seeds on top to grow as planned. I used 2Ltr soda bottles with the bottoms cut off for humidity. Grass has grown well. All still looks good. However it seems I may have run a bit off with my time management as the weather is getting a good bit warmer now. In the "cold" room I have, it gets up to 18°C at times during the day now some days it's about 15°C. So I'm not sure if the temps are going to be desirable. From what I've read seem to need 15°C or below during the day and 10°C or below during the night...
Which means for both my colder temp experiments I might be a little bit screwed

Question to anyone in the know, what are the chances a good cooling fan could lower the temperature enough? It is a small room and mostly made of stone. 2 small windows that get a bit of sun from roughly 2pm or 3pm onwards so heats up more then. Trying to think of a plan to save these 5 cakes.
Question 2. If I cant get the right temps, can I keep them in the fridge? Or am i basically fucked and better off trying again later in the year?
Excuse the rambling.

Id use a portable A/C unit but even that Im not sure it will get cold enough. Might have to fruit inside a modified fridge oe something
Also very cool project! Ive heard that Liberty Caps are very difficult to cultivate.

Cheers I've heard the same but wanted to see if I could. Mini ac unit could maybe work with the fact it's a stone room. Or perhaps a battery powered light might work in the fridge. To be fair I might be lucky that I got this far on a first attempt haha. Need to get the thinking cap on as the grass is about ready to start dying back so almost time to try set potential fruiting stage

I think fridge would be the easiest way to go... When u wake up in the morning put it to the fridge, and when u go to sleep put it in the room under a light. Then it would have around 4C in the "night" and around 15 on the day time. Do u have pics? :P

Mini-fridges are great, and you can often find one for cheaper than an AC unit on Craigslist (plus you're using way less power to cool a small space as opposed to a large one). Really excited to see what comes of these. I've been dreaming about cultivating these ever since I saw Cronicr's grow(s).

Can u post a link to that grow?
I will give it a try as well to grow psilocybe semilanceata. I was tripping acid when I got an idea to pick shitloads of liberty caps in the fall and soak them in cold water for some time to get spore water.
And few minutes later we had an idea to get this spore water to turf farm (place where they grow grass patches) irrigation system to cultivate them that way. So that every1 who buys this turf has some magic hidden in it

Sorry for the delayed response. I took some pictures of them just now. To be honest I'm not very sure if there is much activity in them. There is condensation, a d the grass is growing but since it was such fine mycelium to start with, it's difficult to tell if it's still alive.

Thanks for asking, I've been meaning to write an update. I think I made a mistake with these little pots. But my mistake was back when I seeded them to grow the grass on top. Noob mistake but I'm sure this is what messed it up. Before I cased the tops of these to try get to fruiting, I gave them all a little water, as I remember doing that with my other cakes, yet I gave them all too much and didnt realise I'd likely drowned the mycelium before even casing it and growing the grass on top. BUT this might not be a complete failure. I could perhaps still use the cakes that had the grass growing through them. None appear to have any contamination. Just looks like in those pictures (since them I did cut the grass so it's much shorter. I'm wondering since the addition of the extra grass roots, if I could just try again with these cakes? PC them first as it was done before, inoculate cakes again as before but this time do not drown the cakes before going to fruit?
Lol sorry for such a lengthy reply

Watch this space.
This experiment is not over. Will be restarting in near future. Temperatures will be better soon to do so.
To be continued
