Went for a walk yesterday as someone found my big patch.which is all good I have more than enough so left lots there in case someone else wanted some,was a bit disappointed to see the way it was picked though,they took everything big and small I guess they were excited to find them.so set out looking for new patches,and I was actually surprised that I found more in a different location,not as abundant as the one I left but new spots with subs all the same .albeit they were mainly dried out and more exposed to sun etc..

Subs from today;
           Revisited ones;
  The stipes on these ones were like silly straws;
   I'm going to try and grow the myc from the stem butts onto some cardboard. As I was unsuccessful with prints alone.

Good luck trying to grow the myc on cardboard nikoloxious.ive recently put some wood chips in a pot at home in an area where I naturally get inactives growing,the chips have plenty of myc and had loads of half dead/rotting subs in it already.i also had some large subs that were no good because they were full of insect larvae/worms.. so put all those caps in there too,not expecting anything this year hopefully next? Fingers crossed..

Hopefully something comes of it.
I’ve done similar things around the garden with throwing rotting or maggot ridden caps onto wood chip mulch beds as well as burying stem butts and loose pieces of wood that have subs growing on them. It’s been real hit and miss over the years though. Very difficult to note any real progress as it’s quite random where I leave these things.
I understand it’s a very lengthy process. But I wanna try growing some myc onto cardboard and eventually eucalypt and pine wood chips to see if I can get some more concrete results. Not going to hold my breath though. Besides it’s all for the sake of experimentation.

Sounds excellent best of luck,look forward to hearing your results.also I’d never seen or heard of maggots living in the subs,I was admiring some large ones drying on my kitchen table when I noticed the critters. Was 3am thought I was still tripping..

I definitely suggest soaking some woodchips in water for 24 hours, or until they sink and adding them in with the cardboard. Cardboard food source doesnt seem to last long. They take to cardboard quite well initially but then seem to stop rather suddenly. Recently ive just put stem butts into tubs with air holes filled with soaked woodchips, which i propagated at a few parks/woodchip areas.

Any luck around Melbourne suburbs? There has been quite a bit of rain, i wonder if subs are still growing in the inner suburbs. Is it worth checking out my usual spots?

Its always worth looking during season. Patches dont do the same thing, and no one but you is going to tell whether your patch is fruiting.
Unless you are really struggling financially or really pressed for time, why not? Melbourne is the easiest place to hunt for subs, dont take it for granted.
I live in Adelaide and i was finding subs in the suburbs last week. I would have this week but they got picked. They are DEFINITELY in Melbourne suburbs as we speak. FYI subs are rare in the suburbs in Adelaide, the overwhelming majority of people go to "the hills" for this reason.
Go out for a walk or short drive!
BTW that is a fair question to ask at the start of the season "any finds" but once seasons on, its on!

we have vendors for selling spores, they wouldn't be here if they weren't trusted by the administration and community. There is also a market place here for trading. you have enough time on site to access it but you still need 20 more post, it requires 3 months and 50 post to be able to access the market. In the future, do not ask questions like this in an official thread for certain species or areas, start your own thread.

Have people found that fruiting activity in Melbourne has reduced markedly over the last few weeks we haven't had much rain? I have 4 or 5 spots from Brooklyn right across to Rowville, and none of them have done much for a few weeks.

Same. Wondering if it's more to do with cold temperature rather than lack of rain. A few weeks ago at one spot I left some pins to grow, and 10 days later not only had they barely grown but some had turned black.

Gday guys, a bit quiet round here. How ya'll doing? Do you think it's too cold now for subs? I've been finding them at higher altitudes and it's getting down to 2 degrees at night and max 12 during the days. Haven't been out for 2 weeks but last time I only found a couple. These are not suburban spots. Maybe after this coming weekends rain, and last weekend's rain we should get some fruiting?

Things do seem to have dialled back a little. Though they’re most definitely still out there.
As mentioned before only you will know if your spots/area is fruiting by checking as no two patches/localities follow the same time schedule.
There’s really no point in asking.

Hello everyone I’ve finally found a patch in my suburb even tho it is rather small. If any of you have heard of wood-lover’s-paralysis you can already guess that this patch had me laying flat on my kitchen floor unable to move a muscle for longer than 2 seconds. Is it just me or has mushroom-induced paralysis been a relatively new phenomenon during the 2020 season? Maybe it’s just having a spike this year but damn I’ve never been so unable to move. Even the next day I felt so weak.
http://
This here is the environment where the mushrooms grew. Sorry I’m no photographer unlike some of you legends who post on here but I’m just trying to show the environment where the paralysing mushrooms have popped up.

Its been around awhile, but mushrooms are definitely quite popular this year and so reports of WLP would increase. Though to my understanding, it is and has always been a uncommon phenomenon, that is, happens to a low %age of people.

Good point, everything I read about subs seems so variable.
