Blower for flowhood question

I just ordered a 23 X 35 X 4 1/4 filter and after I did the math, I came up with 500cfm needed for this size of filter.
Should I add on to the number to be safe making it 550 cfm?
Also, I can't find the specs for any blower on eBay. I don't see any mention of cfm anywhere, can someone lend a hand?

I believe with those dimensions, your desired CFM would be more around 560 (23/12=1.916667, 35/12=2.916666667, 2.9166667x1.91666667=559.027777777875x100=~560 cfm). I could be wrong though.
Regardless, the rule of thumb is normally to find something that will blow 20% of your desired CFM at the resistance so that your blower will provide adequate flow as your hepa ages and begins to get a little clogged. That more or less ensures your blower will be good for the entire life of your HEPA. So a blower that blows roughly 560-670 cfm. Can always cover the intake at first and slowly remove the cover as the performance of the hepa decreases.
As for specs on the blowers, if you can get the make and model from the eBay post then see if you can get ahold of the original manufacturers and ask them. If they're worth anything, they should have some kind of specs that will give you an idea if it will work or not.

Yes dont forget you want your CFM @ the SP of your filter at 100 FPM
Your filter may have the resistance listed at some other speed and you have to do a little estimation to figure it out but in the end it doesn't have to be extra super exact. It sounds like you are looking at a really non standard sized filter I bet it's a flanders. It may have some non standard airflow ratings. Post any info on the sticker and I can help you.
It is good advice that Gan said about getting a fan that can push even more than this calculation. Most hepa filters are actually rated to be used up to double their starting SP as the filter loads up with material over time. This is called final pressure drop and most filter manufacturers list this.

Alright so it looks like that was actually tested right at 100 fpm (when you take into account the filter face isnt the full size because of the frame). So you want a blower that will blow minimum of 520 cfm at around 0.65 SP (0.45 for the hepa and 0.2 for prefilter) but you can get one that surpasses this and block some of it's intake (I use gorilla tape strips) to dial it down. Over time you could remove part of the blockage as the filter loads up with material to get more life out of it.

As far as blower specs go on ebay, most dont list the data sheets you will have to try your best to find them on google. Most of the grainger/dayton blowers data can be found on their website.

Thanks bro. I've been eye balling this one slot. Been coming across it everywhere on the web for the same price but doesn't include free shipping like Amazon does.
Should I go for this? It's a new Dayton 549 cfm

Got the filter in and just need to install the blower and touch up the outside and work area.
Love the cage over the face of this thing for protection.
 That's my old man's ass

Looking good. Should be finished tomorrow minus the light fixture under the overhang. Blower is working great too.
 Went with the walnut stain.

On my way to get a prefilter. Left that circle for a symbol of some sort. Any suggestions?

slap a circle A on there lol. Im looking to do a build soon myself. I pulled up same fan and filter your looking at so I may message you in a month or so to check if you have any thing you would have done different.
looks really nice though. I grew for a little over a year a while ago and mostly just reference bodhistta's post because of how clear they are (he also posted a lot when i was doing my research). did you follow another build design? why did you build the filter recessed into the front of the box?

Thanks guys. I was thinking a bio hazard symbol lol. Although some tall pines and a half moon in the corner does sound cool man.
As for the blueprint, I just tried to keep it simple. I have always liked the overhang idea for a couple reasons. For the light I have yet to install and I just like the idea of working in a cabinet. Maybe because I've been using an sab for 5 years lol. And I will help you out if I'm available.
I'm about to pour some plates soon!
