ID Request - Found at local park
    #26803574 - 07/04/20 01:13 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everyone

I’ve been lurking for awhile but this is my first post.

I recently have become interested in hunting and identifying mushrooms, specifically psychedelic mushrooms. I was at my local park today and stumbled across some mushrooms growing in some landscaped wood chips at the base of trees. I know that both wavy caps and liberty caps grow in that park in the fall but was surprised to see these little guys in the summer, although it was cool today and the park has a sprinkler system and lots of shade. I took a few pictures and was hoping someone could identify them for me. I did a few hours of research myself but couldn’t indentify them with any real certainty. They seem like they have withered a fair bit, possibly from the heat. Thanks in advance!

Location: Sacramento area, Northern California / Central Valley
Stem: pure white, hollow, smooth
Cap: Seems to be a darkish gray with slight “ridges”, meaning its not smooth.
Spores: Dark, dark purple to black. More black but can catch a slight purpleness in sunlight

Let me know if I can provide any more info and thanks in Advance!

Em

That’s what I initially thought as well. Thanks for the reply!
