The first jars I did were like 210g millet 105g water, straight into the PC. One was bacterial but the other popped off. Then I did another 5 like that and used LI, but I poured in way too much LI so now they're all wet as fuck and probably gonna go bad. So I tried this method and we'll see. Gonna tiger drop em.
It just sucks I can't for the life of me find a bulk grain supplier in this country and I'm paying like $1.50/kilo of millet. I have to go down to Centro apparently if I want bulk grains but Centro is sketchy as fuck, especially nowadays.

In the uk millet is cheap. Best method if you are going to use li is to sok and allow to dry a little extra
U want it so it feels almost dry

Its always tempting to add more liquid s u feel it will be quicker. Soft agar method really helps here as you can really know its clean

I recently quit using verm because I noticed that every sub that survived forever without getting moldy happened to be straight coir.
Doesnt really make sense cuz it’s nothing nutritious but I keep my big bag of it in a dirty garage too so it always made me wonder a little what else made its way in there that I was now adding to my subs.

Spiders and critters like unsealed verm bags. They are made of matter that can grow mold....

Hm, I loaded mine pretty wet I think. Just strained it and shook it a bit. I guess we'll see. I haven't grown shrooms in 16 years and back then it was only PF tek for me. Just gonna keep trying different things until I find what works for me.

Id forget LI till you get your feet back. Standard agar is the key and inoculate plenty of pint jars with it.

Yup, most definitely. Gonna go with wedge inoculation for these 3 quarts that are sterilizing now. That said, 2 of the 5 LI's are looking like they're about to pop off so fingers crossed. Gotta go to Dollar City and get more shoeboxes soon hopefully. Also I ordered my dehydrator yesterday. That shit was fuckin expensive down here. Malditos

Hey y'all, when you do shoeboxes do you try to keep those little beads of water 100% of the time? I'm still pre-first flush and my heart says mist when it's not completely perfect but my mind says let it do its thing.
-EDIT-
Also, can I inoculate as soon as the jars are cool enough to handle?

Well one of my tubs seems fucked - 16 days and no pins, surface looks pretty thick.
Here’s a different tub, looking better in that it looks like it’s forming some knots. But it still seems to be colonizing pretty slowly: this is day 11. Is it even fully colonized? How’s it look? There are no beads of water even though I gave it a good 20 sprays with the mister this morning. It seems like listing more isn’t a good idea. It’s 100 degrees outside so the A/C is constantly running, to keep it at 72-77. This is BOD’s Unmodified tub - maybe I should remove the blue gasket and flip the lid back to right-side-up?

I have some colonized BRF cakes using PF tek I need to store in the fridge since I only have infrastructure to fruit 6 cakes at a time. A few of them did start to produce fruits invitro. How long can I store those in the fridge with fruits already developed? I want to say no since in general fruits should be dehydrated for storage. Maybe remove the fruits and put the cake back in the jar for storing in the fridge?

You can put far far away and hope for fruits or clean now while its not disgusting and cut your losses. Why are you storing for soo long?

Definitely toss the tub, trich moves fast. Plus the whole thing looks sick, the myc isn’t fluffy at all and should’ve colonized everything by 11 days.

Does anyone use 'plant agar' here? It seems to be pure agar, but aimed for plant tissue culture. I can't really find what the difference is with other types of agar, but it seems to be the purity, with impurities in bacteriological agar possibly being bad for plant hormones, and impurities in plant agar possibly being bad for bacterial growth. And possibly has a higher gel strength. But that was a vague answer from someone.
Planning to use it only for fungi.
