I've Got Mushrooms! Now when do I Harvest Them? Pic Included
    #26803620 - 07/04/20 01:49 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

My first ever Monotub has produced GTs. I've read a bunch and it seems like most people cut them rather than twist/pull. Question is how close am I to harvest AND do I harvest the little guys at the same time or let them try to mature?

Planning on dunking the substrate after 1st flush is complete but I don't know if it's worth letting the little ones blossom or just picking them all and preparing for 2nd flush.

They have really started to blow up and double in size the past 2 days.

Thanks in Advance

I harvest all at once. I like to leave pins all the size to have distinct flushes.
Otherwise you'll be picking here and there every day.

A few look about ready, they’ll be open by tomorrow.

I just pick them as they’re ready, it’s normal to have a few finish before the rest. Most of yours look like they’ll be done close together. I’d say another day and a half or so.

Most people harvest when the veil is about to rip.

I like to pick them a little earlier though. Doesn’t really matter unless you want to print them.

If you want to make a few prints, do you harvest most of them and leave a few a bit longer until the veil is fully broken? Will you be able to create spore prints as long as the veil is broken or is there some other sign to wait for?

Also in for this information but I think it drops spores before and after the veil breaks so I would say soon after the veil breaks but also wait for other opinions

As the veil is tearing or soon after is good for prints. Just carefully remove any remaining veil, pull the stem out, drop of water on top of the cap, place it on foil, cover with a glass and leave it alone.

I also like to harvest before the veil gets really stretched. Once the caps start opening they can be a bit annoying to sit in my dehydrator. Closed caps lay flatter.
