The Search For Weillii
    #2680361 - 05/15/04 12:20 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Wutup everyone,

I live in metro Atlanta, VERY near the home of Psilocybe Weillii, about 5 minutes away from Cherokee County. Today is friday and I looked EVERYWHERE for mushies. All I found was one shroom that has yet to be identified but its not any of the ones that are psychoactive that are said to grow here, but it bruises blue, and has a purple spore print.

Anyone have any luck here in South US or more specifically, southeastern US, like Georgia, or surrounding areas. this is my first year hunting because I recently moved from Jersey, and just two strains of active shrooms grow their. But anywayz, anyone else with or without any luck please post here. Thx. Peace Everyone!

The cubensis season should have begun long ago. I've been out searching for the weilii's all week and haven't found shit. I've found tons of Psathyerlla velutina, which always grow when they weilii are growing(sometimes close by). No weilii though. We've had an assload of rain... I don't understand why they're not up yet. Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.

As far as best methods for finding them and where they grow, that kind of thing, do a search. You'll find countless posts by lizardking that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know :P

Ive never heard of Psathyerlla velutina. Im gonna do a search for em, I wonder if they are any good. I think I might post a pic of that shroom I found once I get my camera workin, I know its hallucinogenic I just have had no luck comparing it with those in my ID book, sso Ill post it here later.

Do you think around the city or metro-area is better for hunting? I guess it doesnt matter as long as you find the correct growing conditions, and proper area. I assume it would be the same, right?

Ehhh, you're probably better off looking in the suburbs. Weilii's original habitat was in the woods and they're taking to lawns of newer neighborhoods... You wont find many of those in the city.

How do you know the mushroom you found is hallucinogenic?

Well, I dont mean to directly identify it as being hallucinogenic, Im just making an educated guess. Its got a brown cap, white stem that bruises blue, and has a dark purple spore print. I am an amateur to hunting so all I can do is assume. what else whould i be looking for by the way, besides Ps. Weillii, Ps. Cubensis, Ps. Caerulescens, Ps. Caerulipes, Copelandia Cyanescens, Gymnopolis Spectabilis, Gymnopolis Luteofoilus, and Panaeolus Subbalteatus? Anywayz, hit me back. peace.

Hi Gumby!

I just did a search on Lizard, and I saw the thing about him getting almost 1,000 Weillii. I wish their wasnt their little red X's their, so I can see the picture, that kinda pisses me off . . . lol. I almost died reading that. Man i cant believe I spent all this time growing cubensis during this time last year. The stuff I learned from it though was soo valuable though.

Oh yeah, that shroom was growing in my friends front yard growin on Bermuda grass, you know, in those cookie cutter sub-divisions, where every damn house is the same. I almost sat on it, didnt even notice it. But I picked it up and it bruised instantly almost. Whats it sound like?

Ok, i just realised that last question was retarded because how would you be able to know if all you know is that it bruises blue and, its got a brown cap, purple spore print, and grows on bermuda.LOL, sorry about that.

Sounds to me like you found a weilii. Keep checking that lawn and other lawns in that neighborhood, you may find a lot more.

Notice the smell of that mushroom... unique, huh?
I've never smelt a mushroom similar to weiliis, it's one of the best characteristics to identify them by.

How big is the mushroom? Find your self 2 weilii with 2-3 inch caps and that's enough for a trip. They're incredibly potent

BTW: I wish LK's pictures still worked too... He had the weilii layed on on 2 card tables and they were 100% full. It was crazy. Perhaps I can get the images from him and reupload some of them. I need to give that mofo a call, haven't talked to him in a while.

Hey Gumby,

Damn, I didnt know Weillii was that potent. It says in my book though its just a little less potent than Cubes, and Cubes are like standard average strength shroom. Im pretty sure its not Weillii the cap isnt wavy or anything, and it smells like, hmm I have nothing to compare it to. Really earthy smell. Cant explain it.Do you know LK personally? Id like to go hunting with that dude, if you only need 2 nice caps to trip and he had 1000, thats roughly probably less than 500 trips. Thats insane. I still cant believe it. Anywayz is it even worth hunting for anything else right noe besides weilli. Is it even worth goin hunting for them now or is it too early. i heard you have to go hunting in the second week of sept. for Weillii's?

I hate to just jump in here like this, but...

When the season gets rolling down there, would anyone be interested in trading a Weilii print or two for some dried morels? If so, PM me (I have other prints as well)...

Hey Atwar,

I'd love to trade for some morels once the time is right, and weilii are out their. I actually found a mushroom today, well actually yesterday cuz i have been up all night, but Gumby thinks its a Weilii. Im not too sure, but hes probably right. Once I get the picture and it if it turns out to be Weilii than i would love to trade. You would probably be better off trading with Lizard King if my shroom isnt weilii. Anywayz, Ill find out tomorrow. Peace.

The spores are not pupple, they are chocolate-brown to purple-brown. And the color is never the actual color of purple. very rare in a shroom.

Once the species P. violacea, still writing the paper, had purple tinges on the caps. and even once I photographed some cuubes with a purtple tinge in the caps from spores blwing over the caps, but generally the color purple is not even noticible on the shrooms.

I cant wait to start seeing them pop up. Thus far I have had no luck.
I?ve found nothing but psyathrellas...which are good indicators of weilii, but useless by themselves.

As for smell... Ive always thought they smelled like anise or licorice

heres some of the better picts from last years load.

thanks   I only hope i can find some like that THIS year.  Those monsters were pushing close to 6-7 inches... found in deep pinestraw.  I was amazed when I reached down to pick them and followed their stem to the ground.

They were bigger images on my hard drive.  But, as of this morning I deleted them.  Sheesh.  I would have been happy to submit them to you, mj, for your site gallery.  I was doing some legal house cleaning and tossed them out though :frown:

If i come up with anything that I missed, I will PM you.
